Four Musicians' Resolutions

Music artists reveal their New Year's resolutions for 2016

Every year, we make New Year's resolutions that range from hitting the gym more often to spending more time with friends and family. But do you know what kinds of New Year's resolutions music artists aspire towards? Hint: You'll be surprised to learn that their resolutions don't include performing at sold-out world music tours or crowd surfing over their fans at Coachella. In fact, they're not too different from our own.

To inspire music fans, we reached out to four of our favourite musicians to find out what their New Year's resolutions are for 2016. Check out what they had to say, and see how their goals compare to your own!

Anne & Pete Sibley

Anne and Pete Sibley first met on a plane while flying to Italy with their New England high school choir. It was practically love at first sight. After getting married, they moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and began performing at the local acoustic hootenanny. Together, they discovered their love for old-time Americana music and began writing their own material. Fifteen years and seven albums later, they're still singing beautiful, folksy duets.

Anne & Pete's New Year's Resolution

Pete: "My resolution for 2016 is to live compassionately toward myself. I've noticed that my music and everything I do is greatly affected by the simple act of extending real and genuine kindness toward myself. If I can't be compassionate with myself, then I don't really stand a chance at extending it to others. I'm excited about deeply connecting with myself instead of trying to impress the rest of the world."

Anne: "My resolution for the New Year is to sing and live from my heart. Music is such a powerful, healing force. The more I listen to music and perform, the better I feel. Singing seems to bring great peace to me and those who listen, so as often as I can, I want to listen to my heart and connect with others."

Chi McClean

Chi McClean packed up his beat-up truck and left his hometown of New York City to follow his dreams of becoming a musician. He made his way to Nashville and began writing acoustic rock songs with a dash of Southern soul. Since then, Chi released his first album, "Something Out There", and his second album, "Let Me In", is set to release later in January.

Chi's New Year's Resolution

"My New Year's resolution is to write twice as many songs as I did in 2015. I also want to demo and pitch more around Nashville, release 10 to 15 new tracks in addition to my upcoming album, "Let Me In", that is coming out on January 22, 2016. To top it all off, I want to keep up with my 150 plus performance dates. Giddy up!"

Fiona Joy

Fiona Joy is an Australian pianist, producer and singer who's known worldwide for her melodic songs and elegant arrangements. Her sophisticated compositions have earned her a breakout year in 2015 and a global tour. Fiona received the global broadcaster's choice as Best Instrumental Piano Album for her multi-format album, "600 Years in a Moment". She also contributed a version of her song "Grace" to Ricky Kej and Wouter Kellerman's "Winds of Samsara", an album that reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts and won a GRAMMY® for Best New Age Album in 2015.

Fiona's New Year's Resolution

"My New Year's resolution for 2016 is to keep all things in balance. Life gets so busy that it's easy to lose sight of the simple things and get caught up in the musical whirlwind of projects and tours. I'm planning to be very focused on my choices, so that I have time to appreciate the ordinary day-to-day experiences like drinking good coffee, petting the cat, cooking for loved ones and discovering great music that sets my soul on fire… because that's where happiness and health are found. As for career goals, it's my resolution to explore Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to ensure that piracy is limited and provide my music fans with more live, authentic music with limited edits. I anticipate that DSD will change the music industry."

Julian Müller

Julian Müller was born in Germany and grew up in a musical family. He later moved to Dublin and quickly became a familiar face in the songwriter scene while spending time with local artists, singing traditional Irish songs and jamming over a pint of Guinness. All of these experiences influenced his soft sound and inspired heartfelt acoustic songs. The highly anticipated debut of his first album, "Colour Me Softly", features Quiles & Cloud, Oscar Westesson and five-time GRAMMY® nominated producer Cookie Marenco.

Julian's New Year's Resolution

"My New Year's resolution is to learn how to play the mandolin. I wanted to learn a new instrument, and I like the idea that it's a travel-friendly option since I will be splitting my time travelling between Ireland and the U.S. in the upcoming year. Travelling also inspires my writing, so I plan on writing new songs in the near future!"

Whether you're a singer, songwriter, musician or you simply appreciate music, we hope these music artists inspire you to set your own New Year's resolutions.
