SONY SXRD 65 PROJECTOR

Due to my room configuration, the seating area is immediately below the projector ceiling rack. So I bought a projector with the lowest fan noise available at the time. I am quite happy with that component of the Sony. The 2d picture is ok. I've had better with JVC. The 3d picture is adequate, I've had better with a DLP by Optoma. But the biggest disappointment was that it developed a blockage in the light path. Had to go in for warranty work with less than one year on the unit. There is no way to candy coat the fact that it broke down so early in it's life span and I was forced to go through the hassels of mailing it in and waiting which knocked it out for about a month. Now I understand that projectors can be a little twitchy. As you can see I've owned quite a few since I built my home theater in 99. But no customer is going to be happy with a manufacturer that has their product fail. Also, I repeatedly requested a new lamp, because the light output of the original was to weak form the technician to perform an IP when I got it back. Sony refused to accomodate with a small compensation request for their unit failure. I thing the average rating of 3 stars is right on the money.

Outstanding color and accuracy

Purchased this projector for my medium/ small home theater room. This is my fIrst projector so I did not know what to expect but after my brother sold me on the whole idea I jumped on this one. I have to say I am quite pleased with the picture quality right out of the box. I did read some professional reviews before purchasing and made a point to use the calibration settings shared by the reviewers. Sony also includes a reference preset button and I have to say while the reviewers' settings were good the Sony preset looks better to me. The colors are so accurate along with good detail. There is no blurring with action scenes as I expected. I have it on a basic 106 inch 1:1 gain screen and this baby could easily go bigger. Now for the bad... In my opinion I thought the blacks could be darker but this is my first projector and I don't know if projectors are limited in this area. I also have a Sony 65 inch 4K TV and I maybe spoiled by its picture. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and my family and I love watching movies with this projector. The blacks could be a little darker but I agree with most of the reviews I have read that the Sony VPL-HW65ES has the best picture quality in its price range without professional calibration which most people will not want to pay for. You can't go wrong with this projector unless you don't mind paying more for the a real 4K projector which only Sony offers for an obtainable price for some. Oh! Also the picture seems to only get better the more I use it. I am currently at 13 hours as I only use it for movies. I may never buy another television after this experience! 4.5 stars
