IMPORTANT: Take into consideration the color and height of the ceiling. It is best to use a bounce flash with a white ceiling. Other colored ceilings can cause discoloration in the picture. Also, ensure the ceiling is not too high. High ceilings may be too far away to sufficiently reflect the light back to the subject.
A bounce flash is created by reflecting the flash emission off the ceiling using an external flash with a tilt head. It is used to effectively soften shadows and brighten the background surroundings in photos to reveal greater depth. This makes portraits look more natural.
