Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.
WARNING: After following any of the steps below, the computer may require the hard drive to be initialized before it can be recognized. Be aware that initializing the hard drive will erase any saved data on the drive.
- Make sure the LED power light on the drive is on.
NOTE: Additional troubleshooting is available if the LED power light does not light up.
- Make sure your computer is using one of the following operating systems:
- Windows® XP
- Windows Vista®
- Windows 7
- Windows 8
- Mac OS® X 10.4 or higher
- Make sure the hard drive is securely connected to the USB port on the computer.
IMPORTANT: Do not use a USB hub. The use of a USB hub is not guaranteed.
- Disconnect all other USB devices except the external hard drive and restart the computer.
