S-Gamut is a color space or color gamut such as ITU-R BT.709 for HDTV, and DCI-P3 for digital cinema which features a wider range of color. S-Gamut defines an even wider color space than that of the previous two. Color must be graded after recording in order to adjust a movie for display on devices such as an HDTV or digital cinema projector when using S-Gamut.

Types of S-Gamut

  • S-Gamut
    • Color space is wider than S-Gamut3.Cine, and can be widely adjusted.
    • Color space covers the same range like S-Gamut3.
  • S-Gamut3
    • Color space is wider than S-Gamut3.Cine, and can be widely adjusted.
    • Color space covers the same range like S-Gamut, but has improved color reproduction.
  • S-Gamut.Cine
    • Color space is slightly wider than DCI-P3.
    • Combining S-Gamut3.Cine with S-Log3, which has gradation characteristics similar to those of scanned negative film, makes it easier to grade a movie for playback.
