PlayMemories Home Stops Working After I Import Movies from My Cyber-shot Camera

The PlayMemories Home™ app may stop working on your computer using Microsoft® Windows® operating system after you import AVCHD movies from your DSC-RX100M5A Cyber-shot® camera.

Affected Software

PlayMemories Home Version 5.5.01 or lower.

Symptoms

  • The camera name DSC-RX100M5A doesn't appear under Cameras and media and doesn't show up if searched.
  • The app closes by itself or doesn't start up.
  • The app freezes or doesn't respond.

Close PlayMemories Home

Close the app before proceeding with other troubleshooting steps. If the app freezes or doesn't respond, use Task Manager to force close the app.

  1. On your keyboard, press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE key combination.
  2. Select Start Task Manager.
  3. On the Processes tab, select Browser IconBrowser.

  4. Click End task.

Unregister Folders

Choose your operating system and follow the steps below to unregister folders containing RX100M5A AVCHD movies from the PlayMemories Home app:

Note: These procedures won't delete your movie files.

  • Windows® 7 or Windows® 10:
    1. Run PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.
      1. On the computer desktop, click on the Start button.
      2. Select All Programs or All Apps.
      3. Open the Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home or PlayMemories Home folder.
      4. Launch the PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.

      5. Add a check mark Check boxbefore Restore the program to its default settings.

      6. Select Start.
    2. Run Browser IconSettings.
      1. On the computer desktop, click on the Start button.
      2. Select All Programs or All Apps.
      3. Select the Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home or PlayMemories Home folder.
      4. Select Browser Icon Settings.

      5. Make sure to remove the check mark from folders containing RX100M5A AVCHD movies.

      6. Click OK or Next.
      7. Follow the on-screen directions to complete the app settings.
  • Windows® 8 or Windows® 8.1:
    1. Run PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.
      1. On the Start screen, select the icon to display Apps.

      2. Under Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home, select PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.

      3. Add a check mark Check boxbefore Restore the program to its default settings.

      4. Select Start.
    2. Run Browser IconSettings.
      1. On the Start screen, select the button to display Apps.
      2. Under Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home, select Browser Icon Settings.

      3. Make sure to remove the check mark from folders containing RX100M5A AVCHD movies.

      4. Click OK or Next.
      5. Follow the on-screen directions to complete the app settings.
