The computer does not display, beep, clear post or boot.

NOTES:
- Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the computer status after completing each step.
- If this issue occurs on a notebook computer, ensure the appropriate AC Adaptor is being used by comparing the model number on the AC Adaptor brick to the AC Adaptor listed in the computer Marketing Specifications under supplied accessories. The Marketing Specifications are available through the Manuals/Specs/Warranty link on this page.
- Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
- Remove all media from the CD/DVD drive.
- Remove any additional third-party cards that were installed in the computer.
NOTE: A video card is needed for startup.
- Remove any additional RAM memory modules that have been added to the computer.
- Remove and replace (reseat) the original RAM memory modules that came installed in the computer.
NOTE: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the computer for specific information on how to install, remove or replace RAM memory modules.
- Restart the computer by pressing and holding the power button until all power indicator lights are off, waiting 30 seconds, and then pressing the power button again.
- Restart the computer to Safe Mode.
- Turn on the computer.
- On the SONY screen, press and hold the F8 key for 7-10 seconds.
NOTES:
- The F5 key also may be used on some computer models.
- If a Please Select Boot Device window appears, press the ESC key, then press the F8 key.
IMPORTANT: If safe mode is being used to troubleshoot an Internet or network connection issue, choose Safe Mode with Networking in the next step.
- On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the ARROW keys to select Safe Mode .
- Press the ENTER key.
NOTE: If a password prompt appears in the Password box, type the password and press the ENTER key.
- Reset the computers BIOS to the default values.
- Restart the computer to the Last Known Good Configuration.
NOTE: The Last Known Good Configuration option will resolve issues related to incorrect drivers or configurations. It will not resolve issues due to corrupted or missing files and will not restore the entire registry, other system files or configurations.
- Restart the computer.
- When the VAIO screen is displayed, press and hold the F8 key for 7-10 seconds.
- In the Advanced Boot Options menu, use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (advanced) .
- Press the ENTER key.
