The following conditions can prevent the Walkman from being able to complete a software update. See each workaround for details:
- An error message appears, indicating insufficient storage space
- The Wi-Fi connection status is unstable
- The battery level of the player is less than 60%
- The player does not proceed from the system update screen
An error message appears, indicating insufficient storage space
The update requires certain free space on the player's internal shared storage. If available space falls below these amounts, an error message appears, indicating insufficient storage space.
The required free space varies depending on the model:
- NW-WM1ZM3 / NW-WM1AM3 / NW-ZX900: more than 5 GB
- NW-A300 / ZX700 Series: more than 4.3 GB
- Other models: more than 2 GB
Hint: The image below is an example of the error message screen that may appear when updating the Walkman using a Wi-Fi connection.
If the error message appears, try the following:
- Check the free space on the player:
- Swipe the Home screen upwards.
- Select
Settings.
The amount of free space appears under Storage.
- Transfer data to a computer or microSD card to free up space on the internal shared storage. Ensure the available free space meets the required amount for your model:
- NW-WM1ZM3 / NW-WM1AM3 / NW-ZX900: more than 5 GB
- NW-A300 / ZX700 Series: more than 4.3 GB
- Other models: more than 2 GB
The Wi-Fi connection status is unstable
Move to a different location with a good Wi-Fi connection.
The battery level of the player is less than 60%
Update the Walkman while it is charging and has at least 60% battery charge. If the battery is too low, the power may turn off during the update and, as a result, the player may not restart.
The player does not proceed from the system update screen (only for NW-A100 series, NW-ZX505, and NW-ZX507)
If the system update is set to Do not allow in the settings, it can't be updated. Try the following workaround:
- Select
Settings → Apps & notifications → See all xx apps to show all installed apps.
- From the
menu at the top right of the screen, select Show system → System Update → Permissions.
- Turn the Storage item to ON.
