This software tool can be used to correct sound data of HD (High Definition) movies previously recorded with the HDR-SR1 or HDR-UX1 Handycam® camcorders.

This update is for Sony® High Definition HDR-SR1 and HDR-UX1 camcorders with serial numbers in the following ranges:

  • US Camcorder Models
    1. HDR-SR1 with serial numbers between 320001 and 332530
    2. HDR-UX1 with serial numbers between 320001 and 329950
  • Canada Camcorder Models
    1. HDR-SR1 with serial numbers between 670001 and 672000
    2. HDR-UX1 with serial numbers between 670001 and 672300

Before You Start

Important Notes

  • You will need the serial number of your camcorder in order to download the software.
    NOTE: The serial number can be found on the bottom of the camcorder.
  • During the installation of the software, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Task bar should be clear of applications before installing the update.
  • It is highly recommended to print out the instructions as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Extraction Instructions

  1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Task bar should be clear of applications before installing the update.
  2. Click the "Download Now" link to go to the "Input Handycam Serial Number" page.
    NOTE: You will need the serial number of your camcorder in order to download the Audio Correction Tool. The serial number can be found on the bottom of the camcorder.
  3. Input the serial number found on the bottom of your HDR-UX1 or HDR-SR1 camcorder, the click the "OK" button.
  4. Download the UX1SR1_AUDIO_COMP.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note the directory for reference).
  5. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the UX1SR1_AUDIO_COMP.EXE file to begin the extraction. One folder named UX1SR1_AUDIO_COMP will be extracted.

How to Correct Audio Using the Audio Correction Tool

  1. WARNING!!: When using your camcorder or a notebook computer with the Audio Correction Tool, be sure to use the supplied AC Adaptor instead of battery power. The movie data may be damaged if the power is interrupted during the audio correction process.

  2. Double-click the UX1SR1_AUDIO_COMP folder to open the folder.
  3. Double-click the UX1SR1_AUDIO file to start the UX1/SR1 Audio Correction Tool.
  4. Click the "Next" button.

    NOTE: If a message different than above appears, follow the instructions for the applicable message below.
    1. If "To run this program, Sony Picture Utility supplied with your camcorder needs to be installed." appears:
      1. Click the "OK" button to install the Picture Motion Browser supplied with the camcorder
      2. Start the UX1/SR1 Audio Correction Tool again.
    2. If "To run this program safely, using the computer with the AC power source is recommended. Do you want to continue?" appears:
      1. Connect the AC Adaptor to your notebook computer to supply power from the wall outlet.
      2. Click the "Yes" button.
  5. Select a location for the temporary files, then click the "Next" button.
    NOTE: The temporary files will be deleted after the audio correction process is complete.

    NOTE: Be sure there is enough free space in the temporary directory location you select. Refer to the following chart for the required free hard drive space.

Follow the instructions listed for the device type you are using to correct the audio.

HD (High Definition) movies saved on a DVD disc (AVCHD format disc)
  1. Select "AVCHD disc (8cm/12cm)" as the data to be corrected, then click the "Next" button.
  2. Select the "Source" and "Destination" locations, then click the "Start" button.
    NOTES:
    • Finalize the source disc before the audio correction process.
    • If you use an 8cm disc for "Source" or "Destination", select HDR-UX1 as the drive.
    • When the source disc is 12cm, you cannot use an 8cm disc as the destination.
    • You can only use a new DVD-R/DVD+R (including 8cm DL) as the destination.
  3. Connect the supplied AC Adaptor to the camcorder and a working wall outlet.
  4. Power on the camcorder.
  5. Connect the camcorder to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
  6. When the "USB SELECT" options appear on the camcorder LCD screen, touch the "Disc COMPUTER" option.
  7. The software starts correcting the audio of the movies.
    WARNING!!: Do not disconnect the USB cable or power source during the audio correction process.
    NOTES:
    • If the message "Cannot start because the available space of the drive selected for temporary files is insufficient." appears, check the required space and then click "Exit" to close the UX1/SR1 Audio Correction Tool. Start again at step 1 in the "How to Correct Audio Using the Audio Correction Tool" section.
    • When you select the same drive for "Source" and "Destination", the message prompting to insert a new DVD disc appears after loading the data. Insert a DVD disc following the message.
    • You can only use a new DVD-R/DVD+R (including 8cm DL) as the destination. Refer to the Combination of DVD discs for details (Add URL/more info window for DVD disc combinations)
    • If you click the "Stop" button during the audio correction, the process may not stop right away.
    • Do not start or use other programs until the audio correction process is complete.
  8. When the "Completed" message appears, click the "Exit" button.

HD (High Definition) movies saved on the hard disk of HDR-SR1
  1. Select "Data in the hard disk of HDR-SR1" then click the "Next"button.
    NOTE: The message "Connect HDR-SR1 to the computer with the USB cable." appears.
  2. Connect the supplied AC Adaptor to the camcorder and a working wall outlet.
  3. Power on the camcorder.
  4. Connect the camcorder to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
  5. When the "USB SELECT" options appear on the camcorder LCD screen, touch the "HDD COMPUTER" option.
  6. When the message "HDR-SR1 is detected." appears, click the "Start" button.
  7. Click the "Yes" button to overwrite the video data on the HDR-SR1 camcorder.
  8. The software starts correcting the audio of the movies.
    WARNING!!: Do not disconnect the USB cable or power source during the audio correction process.
    NOTES:
    • If the message "Cannot start because the available space of the drive selected for temporary files is insufficient." appears, check the required space and then click "Exit" to close the UX1/SR1 Audio Correction Tool. Start again at step 1 in the "How to Correct Audio Using the Audio Correction Tool" section.
    • If you click the "Stop" button during the audio correction, the process may not stop right away.
    • Do not start or use other programs until the audio correction process is complete.
  9. When the "Completed" message appears, click the "Exit" button.

HD (High Definition) movies saved on the computer
  1. Select "Data imported to the computer" then click the "Next"button.
  2. Specify the movie data to be corrected, then click the "Start" button.
    NOTE: If you select "Correct all video data managed by Sony Picture Utility", all movies in the folders registered as "viewed folders" in Picture Motion Browser will be corrected.
  3. Click the "Yes" button to overwrite the video data on the computer hard drive.
  4. The software starts correcting the audio of the movies.
    NOTES:
    • If the message "Cannot start because the available space of the drive selected for temporary files is insufficient." appears, check the required space and then click "Exit" to close the UX1/SR1 Audio Correction Tool. Start again at step 1 in the "How to Correct Audio Using the Audio Correction Tool" section.
    • If you click the "Stop" button during the audio correction, the process may not stop right away.
    • Do not start or use other programs until the audio correction process is complete.
