    Important Notes

    • This utility is intended for use only by owners of the Sony NV-U70 Personal Navigation System who have purchased the NVD-U01N Map Update Disc.
    • All Windows® patches and updates should be installed before installing this utility. Sony recommends downloading and installing the latest Windows updates regularly.
    • In order to use this utility the computer must have a USB port and a DVD drive.
    • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as theAdministratoror as a user with Administrative rights.
    • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

    1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    2. Download the VISTATOOL.EXE file to a convenient directory (please note this directory for reference).
      NOTE: It is recommended that you create a folder called "nav_update" on your computer C: drive, and download the utility to that folder.
    3. When the download is complete, check that the file is correctly downloaded.
      1. Right-click the VISTATOOL.EXE file, and click "Properties".
      2. On the VISTATOOL.EXE Properties screen, verify that the Size: listed is 3.17 MB (3,334,307 bytes).
        NOTE: The Size on disk: listed may be different. That is normal.
      3. If the file size is different than the 3,334,307 bytes, please download the VISTATOOL.EXE file again.

    How to Use the Map Tool

    1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    2. Power on the computer.
    3. Connect the NV-U70 Personal Navigation System to AC power using the using the supplied AC adapter.
    4. Connect the NV-U70 to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
    5. Power on the NV-U70 and wait until the computer detects it.
    6. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the VISTATOOL.EXE file to start the Map Tool.
    7. At the Sony Personal Navigation System window, select your language.
    8. When prompted to do so, insert the NVD-U01N disc into the computer DVD drive.
    9. Please wait until the main menu is displayed, and then operate as usual.
    10. While using the Map Tool:
      • Do not disconnect the USB cable or the AC adapter.
      • Do not turn off the NV-U70, enter into standby mode, or reset the unit.
      • Do not shut down the computer, put the computer in standby mode, or restart the computer.
      • Do not remove the NVD-U01N disc from the DVD drive of your computer while using the Map Tool.
