Benefits and improvements
This utility updates the firmware to version 1.01 and resolves the following issues that some users may encounter when dividing messages during play back.- When trying to play the newer part of a divided message, a "File Damaged" error may be displayed and the message may not play.
- The newer part of a divided message may play back at fast forward speed.
- The newer part of a divided message may be automatically deleted.
Note: These issues do not occur when dividing messages during recording.

Before You Start
This update is intended for Sony® ICD-UX300 digital voice recorders with firmware version 1.0. Do not attempt to install this update on any other models.
The model name is listed on the back of the recorder.
Please follow the steps below to determine the firmware version number:
- Power on the recorder.
- Press the STOP button to confirm the recorder is in stop mode.

The firmware version is displayed. - If the firmware version is 1.01 or higher, you do not need to install this update.
- Before performing the update, make sure that the battery is fully charged. If the power runs out during the update process, the update may not succeed.
- Recorded messages and data may be deleted during the update process. It is strongly recommended that you copy recorded messages and data from the IC recorder to your computer before updating the firmware.
- This update requires at least 10 MB of free space on the recorder.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Note: 64 Bit versions of Windows XP operating system are not supported.
- USB Port: An available USB port.
- Download the ICDUXX00_V101.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Extract the update install file:
- For Microsoft® Windows Vista® or Windows® 7 operating system:
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the ICDUXX00_V101.zip file, and then click "Extract All.
- At the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" window, click "Extract"
- The update file is extracted to a new folder called "ICDUXX00_V101".
- For Windows XP operating system:
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the ICDUXX00_V101.zip file, and then click "Extract All.
- At the "Extraction Wizard" dialog box, click "Next".
- Click "Next".
- Click "Finish".
- The update file is extracted to a new folder called "ICDUXX00_V101".
- For Windows 2000 operating system:
- Use extracting software to extract the update file.
- The update file is extracted to a new folder called "ICDUXX00_V101".
- For Macintosh® OS X operating system:
- Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the ICDUXX00_V101.zip file.
- The update file is extracted to a new folder called "ICDUXX00_V101".
- For Microsoft® Windows Vista® or Windows® 7 operating system:
- Slide the HOLD/POWER switch to the center position.
- Connect the recorder to the computer.
- Browse to the "ICDUXX00_V101" folder and drag or copy the update file "ICDUXX00FW.upg" to the root directory of the recorder.
- Disconnect the recorder from the computer.
- "Updating..." is displayed in the recorder window and the firmware update starts.
The firmware update takes about one minute to complete and then the stop mode display or clock setting display appears.
Note: The update file is automatically deleted from the recorder when the update is complete.
- Power on the recorder.
- Press the STOP button to confirm the recorder is in stop mode.

The firmware version is displayed. - If the firmware version is 1.01 the update has been successfully installed.
