Before You Start
Check the Current Firmware Version
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger is connected.
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger.
- If the MegaChanger starts to play a disc, press the "STOP" button and wait until the menu is displayed on the television before proceeding.
- Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "Setup" - "System Settings", and then press the ENTER button.
- Use the arrow keys to select "System Information", and then press the ENTER button.
- The firmware version currently installed on the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger will be listed on the television screen.
If the last three digits of the version number are 020 or higher, it is not necessary to install this firmware update.

How To Get the Firmware Update
There are three ways to obtain the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger firmware update:
- Network Update:
- The Network Update operation is straightforward, so it is highly recommended that you use the Network Update method.
- You will need to connect the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable.
- Please see the Network Update Instructions section below, for more information.
- Create an Update Disc:
- If you cannot connect the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to your Internet source, please use the disc update method.
- Please click the Download Now link at the top or bottom of this page to download the firmware update.
- Please see the Download the Firmware and Create an Update Disc section below, for more information.
- A drive with CD disc burning capability, and a new blank CD-R disc are required to create the update disc.
- Request an Update Disc
- If you cannot connect the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to your Internet source, please use the disc update method.
- If you are unable to create the upgrade disc you can purchase one from the True Manuals web site.

Network Update Instructions
The Network Update operation is straightforward, so it is highly recommended that you use the Network Update method to update the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger firmware.
Important Notes
- If you have not done so already, please check the current firmware version to determine if this firmware update is needed for your Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger.
- WARNING!! Please follow the update instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the update process and may cause the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- WARNING!! Do not power off the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware update may cause the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- In order to use this update method it is necessary to have the MegaChanger correctly connected to an active Internet connection.
Note: If you cannot connect the MegaChanger to your Internet source, please see the How To Get the Firmware Update section above for information about firmware update disc options. - In order to perform the firmware update, it is necessary to have the MegaChanger correctly connected to a compatible television.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.
Network Update Instructions
WARNING!! Please follow the update instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the update process and may cause the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to be unresponsive or to require repair.
Note: The firmware update process usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on system configuration and network connection.
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger is connected.
- Connect the "LAN(100)" terminal on the MegaChanger to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable.
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger.
- At the menu, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "Setup" - "Network Update" and then press the ENTER button.
- The message "Perform version update?" is displayed on the television.
- Select "OK" and then press the ENTER button.
- The download process starts and the download screen is displayed on the television.
- During the download the message "DOWNLOAD */9" is displayed on the television and on the MegaChanger front display.
Note: The "*" changes to "0" through "9", indicating the download progress. - After the download is complete, the update starts and "VERSION UP" appears on the MegaChanger front panel display.
- While the update is installed the message "VERSION UP */9" is displayed on the MegaChanger front display.
Note: The "*" changes to "0" through "9", indicating the update progress. - The firmware update is complete when "FINISH" appears on the MegaChanger front panel display.
WARNING!! Do not operate or power off the MegaChanger until this message is displayed. Doing so may cause the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to be unresponsive or to require repair. - The Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger will automatically power off.
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger
- Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.
Note: If the last three digits of the version number are 020, the firmware update was successful.

Network Update FAQ
Q: "SYSTEM ERROR" or "VERSION UP NG" is displayed on the MegaChanger front panel display. A: Please perform the following procedure: - Push and hold the "POWER" button on the MegaChanger for several seconds until the MegaChanger powers off.
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger.
- Follow the Network Update Instructions again.
If the issue persists after performing the update again, please contact Sony Support at 1-866-909-SONY (7669).
Q: When running network update, the television displays an error message and you cannot perform the firmware update. A: There may be a problem with the network connection. Verify that the network connection and settings are correct. - Check the Ethernet cable to make sure it is securely connected to the "LAN(100)" terminal on the MegaChanger and to the Internet source.
- Check the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger network settings and confirm that the MegaChanger has its own IP address.
Note: If you use a proxy server, enter the IP address of the proxy server you use, instead of the proxy host name, in the "Proxy Server" input field. - Follow the Network Update Instructions again.
Q: The firmware update process is still not finished after running for more than 30 minutes even though the download part is finished. A: Please contact Sony Support at 1-866-909-SONY (7669).
Download the Firmware and Create an Update Disc
If you cannot connect the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to your Internet source, please use the disc update method.
Important Notes
- If you have not done so already, please check the current firmware version to determine if this firmware update is needed for your Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger.
- WARNING!! Please follow the update instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the update process and may cause the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- WARNING!! Do not power off the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware update may cause the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- Use a brand new CD-R disc to burn the firmware update. The MegaChanger may not be able to correctly read a dirty disc or a disc with scratches.
Note: A CD-R disc is strongly recommended. Do not use a CD-RW disc. - Recommended operating system for the computer that will download the firmware update:
- Microsoft® Windows® 10

Download and Disc Creation Instructions
- Download the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file is 47,269,888 bytes.
- Right-click the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file, and click "Properties".
- On the "UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE Properties" screen, verify that the "Size:" listed is "45.0 MB (47,269,888 bytes)".
Note: The "Size on disk:" listed may be different. That is normal. - If the file size is different than the "47,269,888 bytes", please download the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file again.
- Double-click the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file to begin the process to extract the firmware update.
- At the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE dialog box, type a location, or click the "Browse..." button to select a location for the uncompressed update, and then click "OK". The UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.ISO file will be extracted to the specified location.
- Use the "Burn Image" option of your CD burning software to create the update disc from the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.ISO file.
- For Windows 7 users: You can burn an image using the "Windows Disc Image Burner" feature. Please follow the steps below:
- Right-click the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.ISO file that you just extracted to a temporary or download directory and select "Burn disc image".
- At the "Windows Disc Image Burner" dialog box, next to "Disc burner", verify that your optical drive is selected.
Note: Ensure that the "Verify disc after burning" box is selected. - Place a new CD-R disc into the computer disc drive.
Note: A CD-R disc is highly recommended. Do not use a CD-RW disc. - Click the "Burn" button.
- The burning process begins and the update disc is created and finalized.
Note: Please wait until after "The disc image has been successfully burned to disc" message appears to remove the disc from the computer.
- CD Burning Notes:
- If you are unable to create the upgrade disc you can purchase one from the True Manuals web site.
- Do not create a data disc. In order for the update disc to work, you must create it using the "Burn Image" option of your CD burning software.
- The update disc must be finalized. Be sure to select "Finalize CD (No further writing possible)" in your CD burning software to finalize the update disc.
- If write errors occur during the CD burning process, discard the disc and create a new update disc.
- Burning the disc using packet writing software is not supported.
- Do not use an update disc created using any other process than the one described above.
Disc Update Instructions
The instructions below are for how to install the firmware update using a disc. The steps are the same whether you downloaded the firmware and created the disc, or whether you ordered the disc from Sony.
Disc Update Instructions
WARNING!! Do not power off the MegaChanger or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Doing so may damage the MegaChanger to the point of requiring repair.
WARNING!! Do not press any buttons, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage the MegaChanger to the point of requiring repair.
Note: The firmware update process usually takes from 10 to 20 minutes.
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger is connected.
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc MegaChanger.
- On the Remote control, press the
OPEN/CLOSE button to open the front cover.
- Insert the update disc and then press the
OPEN/CLOSE button to close the front cover.
- Select the update disc in the "Other Discs" folder on the HOME menu.
- After the disc is loaded, the message, "Perform version update?" is displayed on the television.
- Use the remote control to select "OK", and then press the ENTER button.
- The update process starts and "VERSION UP" appears on the MegaChanger front panel display.
- While the update is installed the message "VERSION UP */9" is displayed on the MegaChanger front display.
Note: The "*" changes to "0" through "9", indicating the update progress. - The firmware update is complete when "FINISH" appears on the MegaChanger front panel display.

- Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.

Disc Update FAQ

Q: The update disc does not appear in -Other Discs- on the HOME menu when the update disc is inserted. A: Remove the update disc from the MegaChanger and delete the update files from your computer. Follow the steps in the Download the Firmware and Create an Update Disc section to create a new update disc and then follow the steps in the Disc Update Instructions section to install the firmware update. Q: When I double click on the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE update file I downloaded from the update web site, the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.ISO file is not created and the following error message appears:"Win32 Cabinet Self-Extraction". A: The download may have failed. Delete the downloaded file and follow the steps in the Download the Firmware and Create an Update Disc section to create a new update disc. Q: The firmware update process is still not finished after running for more than 30 minutes. A: Please contact Sony Support at 1-866-909-SONY (7669).
