Before You Start

How to Check if You Need the Update

Please follow the steps below to check your television software version to determine if it needs this software update:

  1. Power on the television.
  2. On the television remote control, press the MENU button to open the television Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select Setup, and then press the ENTERenter button button.
  4. At the Setup menu, use the arrows to select Product Support, and then press the ENTER button.
  5. At the Product Support menu, use the arrows to select Contact Sony, and then press the ENTER button.
  6. The software version number will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If your software version is 1.12.580 or higher, your television does not need this update.

Important Notes

  • WARNING: After performing this update, it is not possible to return to or install a previous version of the system software. By downloading and installing this update, you acknowledge that you understand this update cannot be reversed.
  • WARNING: Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the television to be unresponsive or require repair.
  • WARNING: Do not power off the television or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the television to be unresponsive or require repair.
  • All user settings may be erased during the firmware update.
  • In order to discover additional digital channels from an antenna or direct cable connection (not using a cable or satellite box) that were not being received before this update, please run Auto Program after completing the update process.
  • It is normal for the television set to restart during the update process. The television set may take longer than usual to restart as it is installing the new firmware.
  • To download the update, a USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. View formatting instructions.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download & Install

Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

  1. Download the sony_tvupdate_2011_112580_uc_dtv.pkg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the sony_tvupdate_2011_112580_uc_dtv.pkg file is 16,937,005 bytes.
    1. Right-click the sony_tvupdate_2011_112580_uc_dtv.pkg file, and click Properties.
    2. On the sony_tvupdate_2011_112580_uc_dtv.pkg Properties screen, verify that the Size: listed is 16.1 MB (16,937,005 bytes).
      Note: The Size on disk: listed may be different. That is normal.
    3. If the file size is different than the 16,937,005 bytes, please download the sony_tvupdate_2011_112580_uc_dtv.pkg file again.
  3. Format a compatible USB storage device to the FAT32 file system and connect it to your computer.
    Note: A USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update.   4. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded, right-click on the sony_tvupdate_2011_112580_uc_dtv.pkg file and, from the menu, click Send To..., and then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The update file will be copied onto your USB device.
  5. Remove the USB device from your computer.

Updating the Software

Note: The software update takes approximately ten minutes to complete. During the update process, the screen on your BRAVIA television will be blank. This is normal. Please do not remove the USB storage device until the update is complete.

WARNING: During the firmware installation process, do not remove the USB device, turn off the television, or disconnect the television from the power supply. doing so may damage your television set and make it unusable, or may require service.

  1. Power on the television.
  2. Insert the USB storage device into the USB port located on the side of the television.
    Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.

  3. Power off your television by pressing the POWER button on the television.
  4. Press the POWER button again. The POWER indicator will be green for 30 seconds, followed by the PIC OFF/TIMER indicator slowly flashing amber, and the STANDBY indicator is red.

    WARNING: Do not remove the USB device, turn off the television, or disconnect the television from the power supply until the update is complete.
  5. After several minutes, the television will power off and then back on to complete the update.
  6. Remove the USB device from the television.
  7. You may delete the update files from the USB device, or reformat the USB device.
  8. The update process is now complete.
    Note: If the update does not complete and the the PIC OFF/TIMER indicator is flashing amber, red, and green, please proceed to the following procedure for a possible solution:
    1. Verify your USB device is in good working order and perform the Download and Transfer process again.
    2. Press the POWER button on the television to power off the television.
    3. Press the POWER button on the television again to power on the television.
    4. Perform the Updating the Software process again.

Update Verification (optional)

Please follow the steps below to verify that the software was successfully updated:

  1. Power on the television.
  2. On the television remote control, press the MENU button to open the television Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select Setup, and then press the ENTERenter button button.
  4. At the Setup menu, use the arrows to select Product Support, and then press the ENTER button.
  5. At the Product Support menu, use the arrows to select Contact Sony, and then press the ENTER button.
  6. The software version number will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If your software version is 1.12.580 or higher, your television has been properly updated.
