Sony has designed the BRAVIA® Televisions software update process to be customer friendly. This software update (version aa0211pn) provides the following benefits:

Improvement over version aa0204pn:

  • Resolves possible missing YuppTV icon and improves Internet performance and stability for YuppTV content

Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version aa0211pn:

  • Improved stability for the initial/add scan for receiving digital channels
  • Adds the Hulu Plus™ online video service. Note: The Hulu Plus service is added to the internet content once service is activated
  • New Widget Services allowing Video Playback
  • New BRAVIA Internet Services (Picasa™ and Pandora®). Note: Some services may not be available depending on your location
  • Adds support for the Netflix® online service
  • Adds additional functionality for Yahoo® widgets
  • Improves Network functions (Internet Video and Widgets)
  • Improves audio & video synchronization for playing network videos
  • Resolves intermittent issues, including the following:
    • Momentary picture freezing and the TV powers off and then on. This occurs shortly after powering on the TV, while viewing a program, changing channels, or using the xross media bar™
    • When changing channels, the TV powers off and the POWER/STANDBY LED flashes red
    • When viewing 1080p formatted signals using the Component (Y/Pb/Pr) Input, a horizontal scratch-like line appears on the screen

    • The TV turns off and back on when powering on the TV with a programmable Remote Commander

Before You Start


How to Check if You Need the Update

Please follow the steps below to check your television software version to determine if it needs this software update:

  1. Press the Menu button to access the TV Menu.
  2. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select the Settings icon Settings.
  3. Use the arrows to highlight the Product Support icon Product Support Icon, and then press the ENT button ENT Button on the remote control.
  4. The software version number will be displayed at the bottom of the Contact Sony screen.
  5. If your software version is aa0211pn or higher, your TV does not need this update.

Important Notes

  • WARNING: This update is permanent. After performing this update it is not possible to return to or install a previous version of the system software. By downloading and installing this update, you acknowledge that you understand this update cannot be reversed.
  • If your television software version is aa0211pn or higher, your TV does not need this update.
    Note: If your television is connected to the Internet, the software may have already been updated. If your TV has already been auto-updated to version aa0211pn, aa0206, or higher, no further action is needed. Software versions aa0211pn and aa0206 provide the same benefits.
  • To download the update, a USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. View formatting instructions.
  • If you are unable to obtain or use a USB storage device, required to perform the update, you can purchase one from the True Manuals web site.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Decide How to Get the Update

There are two ways to obtain the software update:

  1. Download the Update - Click the Download Now icon on this page to download the update to your computer and then follow the instructions below to install the update on your TV.
    IMPORTANT: A USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. View formatting instructions.
  2. Network Download - If your TV is connected to the Internet, you can check for software updates with the following procedure:
    1. On the TV remote control, press the HOME button to open the TV Home.
    2. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select the Settings icon Settings.
    3. Use the arrows to highlight the Product Support icon Product Support Icon, and then press the ENT button ENT Button on the remote control.
    4. Press the ENT button on the remote control to select Software Update.

    Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

  1. Download the sony_dtv_pkgaa0211pn.p09 file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
  2. Format a compatible USB storage device the FAT32 file system and connect it to your computer.
    Note: A USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. View formatting instructions.
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded, right-click on the sony_dtv_pkgaa0211pn.p09 file and, from the menu, click Send To..., and then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk (E:)) that represents your USB device. The update file will be copied onto your USB device.
  4. Remove the USB device from your computer.
  5. Please continue to the next section.

Updating the Software

Note: The software update takes approximately ten minutes to complete. During the update process, the screen on your BRAVIA television will display progress information, or may be blank. This is normal. Please do not remove the USB storage device until the update is complete.

WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF THE TV OR UNPLUG THE POWER CORD WHILE THE UPDATE IS IN PROGRESS.

  1. Turn the TV off.
  2. Insert the USB storage device into the USB port located on the side of the TV. Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.

  3. Turn your TV on by pressing the POWER button on the Remote Control. Once the USB storage device has been detected, a message appears indicating that the files are being updated.

  4. A message appears indicating that the TV will start the update process.

    DO NOT REMOVE THE USB DEVICE OR TURN OFF THE TV UNTIL THE UPDATE IS COMPLETE.
    IMPORTANT: The TV will power off and then back on as a normal part of the update.
  5. After several minutes, a message appears indicating The software update is complete.

  6. Remove the USB device from the TV, and then click OK by pressing the ENT button ENT Button on the remote control.
  7. Delete the update files from the USB device, or reformat the USB device.
  8. The update process is now complete.
