    This utility updates the PRS-T3 firmware to version 1.1.00.15210 and replaces The Reader™ Store icon and link with the Kobo Store icon and link to enable direct access to the Kobo eBook Store via Wi-Fi® connection. This update also disables the following functions linked to the Reader Store:

    • Facebook® sharing
    • Bookmarks and reading position sync
    • Annotations and highlights sync

    Before You Start


    Important Notes

    • This utility requires one of the following Microsoft® Windows® operating systems:
      • Windows 8.1 (32/64 bit)
      • Windows 8 (32/64 bit)
      • Windows 7 (32/64 bit)
      • Windows Vista® (32/64 bit) with Service Pack 2 or later
      • Windows XP (32 bit only) with Service Pack 3 or later
    • IMPORTANT: This utility is for compatible Windows operating systems only. If you are using an Apple® Macintosh® computer please go to the PRS-T3 System Update for Macintosh page.
    • WARNING! The Sony Reader must be fully charged before installing this update. Failure to fully charge the Reader before installing the firmware update may cause the Reader to be unresponsive or to require repair.
    • The software update process takes about 6 to 8 minutes.
    • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
    • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

    Download and Installation Instructions

    1. WARNING! The Sony Reader must be fully charged before installing this update. Failure to fully charge the Reader before installing the firmware update may cause the Reader to be unresponsive or to require repair.
    2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    3. Before you start the download, please confirm again that your model is PRS-T3.
    4. Download the PRS-T3_Updater_1.1.00.15210_a.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    5. Please check if the file has been downloaded correctly without any damage.
      1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the PRS-T3_Updater_1.1.00.15210_a.exe file, and then click Properties in the menu.
      2. Click the digital signature tab and check if the name of signer shows correctly Sony Corporation.
    6. Connect the Sony Reader to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    7. Wait until the USB connected screen is displayed on the Reader, and then tap Yes.
    8. If the Reader for PC software starts, close Reader for PC before continuing.
    9. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the PRS-T3_Updater_1.1.00.15210_a.exe file to begin the installation.
      WARNING!: Do not disconnect the Sony Reader during the update process.
    10. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
      Note: The Sony Reader will automatically restart during the update process.
    11. After the software update is complete, an Update Completed message is displayed.
    12. Click the X to close the update utility.

    After the Sony Reader restarts, and the Reader displays an update complete message, the installation of the Sony Reader (PRS-T3) Update is complete.

    Installation Verification (optional)

    1. On the Sony Reader, press the Home button.
    2. At the Home menu, tap Applications then Settings.
    3. At the Settings menu, touch About, and then tap Device Information.
    4. At the Device Information screen, version 1.1.00.15210 should be displayed.
      Note: If the version is not 1.1.00.15210, please re-download the update, and then perform the software update again.

    Questions & Answers


    Possible Errors During the Update Process

    ERROR: Please first quit Reader for PC and try again. is displayed. RESOLUTION:
    1. Close the Reader for PC software.
    2. Click the X in the upper right hand corner to close the PRS-T3 updater window.
    3. Double-click the PRS-T3_Updater_1.1.00.15210_a.exe file to restart the installation.
    ERROR: Update isn't complete. Please try again is displayed. RESOLUTION:
    1. Click the X in the upper right hand corner to close the PRS-T3 updater window.
    2. Disconnect the USB cable from the PRS-T3.
    3. Start the update process again.
    ERROR: The Update button in the PRS-T3 Updater is not enabled even if the PRS-T3 is connected to the computer. RESOLUTION:
    1. Click the X in the upper right hand corner to close the PRS-T3 updater window.
    2. Disconnect the USB cable from the Reader.
    3. Press the Reset button on the Reader, and then press the Power button to restart the Reader.
    4. Start the update process again.
