This utility updates the system firmware and provides the following benefits:Improvements over version 2.00:
- Provides the Half-Press shutter function
- Improves the NFC One-touch connection (the connection time is reduced)
Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 3.00:
- Adds ISO sensitivity setting ranging from 100 to 3200
- Improves the video recording mode from 1440 x 1080 (30p) to full HD video recording at 1920 x 1080 (30p)

Before You Start
This update is only for DSC-QX100 cameras that currently have firmware versions lower than 3.00.
If your camera firmware version is 3.00, this update is not necessary.
Check if your camera is already updated to firmware version 3.00:
- Connect your camera and smartphone using the PlayMemories® Mobile app.
Note: Requires PlayMemories Mobile app version 4.2 or later. - Press the shutter button half way to focus.
- On your smartphone, if the green dot is displayed just below "FOCUS", your firmware is already updated to version 3.00 and does not need this update.
Note: If the green dot is not displayed, please download and install the firmware update.
- IMPORTANT: This utility is only for use with the Sony®
DSC-QX100 cameras. Do not install this utility with any other model. - WARNING!!: This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
- This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
- A computer with:
- CPU: Intel® processor
Note: Core™ Solo and Core Duo processors are not supported. - Available Hard Disk Space: 200 MB or more
- Installed Memory (RAM): 512 MB or more
- A USB port.
- Mac OS X® version 10.6 - 10.11.
IMPORTANT: For OS X version 10.10 or 10.11, please ensure the Mac OS X Driver Loader has been installed before continuing to update your firmware.

- This update can only be performed when the remaining battery level has three bars
or more. When performing the firmware update, it's recommended to use a fully charged NP-BN rechargeable battery pack.
WARNING!!: The camera may not operate properly if the power is interrupted during the update.

- Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
IMPORTANT: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
- Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
- Remove the memory card from the camera
- Ensure the camera battery is fully charged.
Download & Install
- Determine if Your Camera Needs the Update

- Prepare the Camera for the Firmware Update
- Download and Update the Firmware
- Check the Firmware Version After Updating (optional)
- Download the Update_DSCQX10V300.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_DSCQX10V300.dmg file.
Note: Do not connect the camera to the computer yet. - Double-click the "Firmware Updater"
icon.
- At the Password prompt screen, enter the Name and Password for the administrative account, and then click "OK".
- Ensure the memory card is removed from the camera.
- Power on the camera.
- Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
- At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".
WARNING!!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete. - When the updater recognizes the camera connection, the next "Firmware Updater" screen is displayed on the computer, and the camera screen displays a no memory card icon.
- At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".
- When the following screen is displayed, check the version number at the lower left.
If the current version is lower than 3.00, click "Next".
Note: If the current version is "3.00", your camera does not need this update. Stop the USB connection and click "Finish". Then power off the camera, briefly remove the battery pack, and then power on the camera again.
WARNING!!: Do not disconnect the USB cable from the camera or the computer.- Reset the camera.
To reset the camera, press the Shutter button on the side of the camera.
Note: The screen will turn off after pressing the Shutter button. Please continue to the next step. - At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".
- When the following screen is displayed, click "Run".
Note: The update process takes about ten minutes to complete.
WARNING!!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete. - When the following screen is displayed, click "Finish".
- You may now disconnect the USB cable.
- Power off the camera and remove the battery pack. Then reconnect the battery pack and power the camera back on.
- Connect your camera and smartphone using the PlayMemories Mobile app.
Note: Requires PlayMemories Mobile app version 4.2 or later. - Press the shutter button half way to focus.
- On your smartphone, verify that the green dot is displayed just below "FOCUS".
This confirms the firmware version is 3.00. If the green dot is not displayed, please download and install the firmware update again.
