This utility updates the receiver firmware to version 1.056 and improves the Netflix® streaming service and Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) sound distortion issues.System Requirements

Before You Start
Check the Current Firmware Version
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the AV receiver is connected.
- Power on the AV receiver.
- On the AV receiver remote control, press the HOME button, the home menu is displayed on the television screen.
- Select "Settings", and then press the ENTER button
.
- From the Settings menu list, select "Network", and then press the ENTER button
.
- Select "Software Update", and then press the ENTER button
.
- Select "Version", and then press the ENTER
button.
- The firmware version currently installed on the AV receiver will be listed on the television screen. If the version number is 1.056 or higher, it is not necessary to install this firmware upgrade.

Network Update Instructions
The STR-DA1800ES AV receiver firmware can only be upgraded by performing a Network Update.

Important Notes
- If you have not done so already, please check the current firmware version to determine if this firmware upgrade is needed for your AV receiver.
- WARNING! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the AV receiver to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- WARNING! Do not power off the AV receiver or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the AV receiver to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- In order to perform the Network Update it is necessary to have the receiver correctly connected to an active Internet connection.
- In order to perform the firmware upgrade, it is necessary to have the receiver correctly connected to a compatible television.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Firmware Upgrade Instructions
WARNING! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the AV receiver to be unresponsive or to require repair.
Note: The upgrade process usually takes about 40 minutes, depending on system configuration and network connection.
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the AV receiver is connected.
- If you have not done so already, connect the LAN port on the receiver to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable.
- Power on the AV receiver.
- On the AV receiver remote control, press the HOME button, and then wait until the home menu is displayed on the television before proceeding.
- At the home menu, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "Settings", and then press the ENTER
button.
- At the Settings menu list, select "Network" and then press the ENTER
button.
- Select "Software Update", and then press the ENTER
button.
- Select "Update", and then press the ENTER
button. The receiver starts checking for the available software update.
- When the "Found latest update" message appears, press the ENTER button
.
Note: If an update is not available, the message "No update required" appears. - To continue, select "OK" and then press the ENTER button
.
- At the "END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR SONY SOFTWARE" message, read the agreement and follow the instructions to confirm the message, then, if you agree, select "Agree", and then press the ENTER button
.
- The receiver software update begins.
Note: The upgrade process usually takes about 40 minutes, depending on system configuration and network connection. - The message "Complete!" is displayed when the upgrade is finished and the AV receiver will automatically restart.
- Check the current firmware version to confirm that the upgrade has successfully installed.
Note: If the version number is 1.056 , the firmware upgrade was successful.

Network Upgrade FAQ
Q: When running the network upgrade, the television displays the message, "The receiver failed to download the update data while performing the software update. Enter the settings menu and update the software again." and you cannot perform the firmware upgrade.
A: There may be a problem with the network connection. Verify that the network connection and settings are correct.
- Please verify the following items:
- Check the Ethernet cable to make sure it is securely connected to the LAN port on the receiver and to the Internet source.
- Check the AV receiver network settings and confirm that the receiver has its own IP address and then follow the Network Upgrade Instructions again.
Q: The power was shut down during the upgrade process.
A: Turn the receiver on and then follow and then follow the Network Upgrade Instructions again.
