Before You Start
How to Check if You Need the Update
This update is intended for Sony® PCM-D100 digital voice recorders. Do not attempt to install this update on any other models.
Please follow the steps below to determine the firmware version number:
- Power on the linear PCM recorder.
- Press and hold the HOME/BACK button until the HOME Menu is displayed.
- Select
(Settings icon), Common Settings, and then System Information.
- The firmware version is displayed.
Note: If the firmware version is 1.02 or higher, you do not need to install this update.
Important Notes
- Before performing the update, make sure that the battery is fully charged. If the power runs out during the update process, the update may not succeed.
- Recorded messages and data may be deleted during the update process. It is strongly recommended that you copy recorded messages and data from the IC recorder to your computer before updating the firmware.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

This software requires a computer meeting the following system requirements:

Note: This software is not guaranteed to work for all computers even if they meet the above system requirements. Furthermore, the following systems are not supported:
- Operating systems, other than the ones indicated above
- Personally constructed computers or operating systems
- Upgraded operating systems
- Multi-boot environments
- Multi-monitor environments
Download and Installation Instructions
- Download the PCM-D100_V102.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Extract the update install file:
- For Microsoft® Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows 8 operating system:
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the PCM-D100_V102.zip file, and then click "Extract All.
Note: For Windows 8, the default settings for Internet Explorer® will save the file in the Downloads folder. To locate the Downloads folder, click the "Desktop" tile from the Start screen and then locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer. - At the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" window, click "Extract".
- The update file is extracted to a new folder called "PCM-D100_V102".
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the PCM-D100_V102.zip file, and then click "Extract All.
- For Macintosh® OS X operating system:
- Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the PCM-D100_V102.zip file.
- The update file is extracted to a new folder called "PCM-D100_V102".
- For Microsoft® Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows 8 operating system:
- Connect the linear PCM recorder to the computer.
- Browse to the "PCM-D100_V102" folder and drag or copy the update file "PCM-D100.UPG" to the root directory of the recorder.
- Disconnect the recorder from the computer.
- "Updating..." is displayed in the recorder window and the firmware update starts.
Note: The firmware update takes about one minute to complete and then the stop mode display or clock setting display appears. - The update file is automatically deleted from the recorder when the update is complete.
Confirm Successful Update (optional)
- Power on the linear PCM recorder.
- Press and hold the HOME/BACK button until the HOME Menu is displayed.
- Select
(Settings icon), Common Settings, and then System Information.
- The firmware version is displayed.
Note: If the firmware version is 1.02 or higher, you do not need to install this update.
Questions & Answers
Possible Errors During the Update
Q: "Low battery power to Update" is displayed on the recorder.
A: Replace or recharge the battery.
Q: "Memory Full" is displayed on the recorder.
A: Delete recorded messages or data from the recorder, or transfer them to the computer, so the recorder has at least 10 MB of free space, and then start the update process again.
