    Benefits and improvements

    This utility updates the firmware to version 1.027 and provides the following benefits:

    Improvements over version 1.025:

    • The SHOUTcast® Internet radio service is no longer a supported feature. At this point it may possible to listen to pre-set stations without performing this update (providing there is no change from the SHOUTcast service). There may be a problem tuning to a new or different station (that is not preset) which may be corrected by performing this update.
      Note: We are unable to guarantee future listening with the SHOUTcast service.

    Benefits provided by previous updates and included in versions 1.027:

    • Provides support for the Rhapsody® music service security certificate server update
    • Provides support for the SHOUTcast® Internet radio interface update

    Setup Manager System Requirements

    • Computer: PC running Microsoft® Windows® XP, Windows Vista® or Windows 7 operating system
      Notes:
      • Please ensure that the latest operating system service pack is installed. (SP1 for Windows Vista operating system or SP3 for Windows XP operating system.)
      • 64-bit versions of Windows XP operating system are not supported
    • CPU: Intel® Celeron® or Pentium III processor or higher
    • Clock Speed: 1.0 GHz or higher
    • Memory (RAM) (for Windows XP): 512 MB or more
    • Display: 1024 X 768 High Color (65536 colors) or higher resolution
    • Hard Disk (HDD): 20 MB or more free disk space
    • Network: 100 Base-TX or higher

    Note: Sony does not guarantee trouble-free operation on all computers that satisfy the system requirements.

    Setup Manager Installation

    Firmware Download and Installation Instructions

    1. WARNING!! Do not power off the receiver or disconnect the network cable during the firmware update process. Doing so may cause may cause a malfunction.
    2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    3. Download the N21U_1027.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    4. Connect the receiver to your network using a network LAN cable.
    5. Ensure the receiver is connected to the TV.
    6. Power on the receiver and wait 30-50 seconds for the U-com communication.
    7. On the remote commander, press the "GUI MODE" button to show "GUI MODE ON" in the display window.
    8. Ensure the TV is powered on. The menu is displayed on the TV screen.
      Note: If your receiver has already been configured to connect with your home network, please skip to step 13.
    9. On the remote commander, use the up/down arrow () buttons to select Settings, Network, Network Setup.

    10. At the "Network Setup" menu, select Internet Setup.

    11. At the "Internet Setup" screen, select Connect Automatically(DHCP).

      Note: The message "Connecting... Please wait." may appear.
    12. When the receiver has successfully connected to the network, select "Finish" and press the enter () button.
    13. On the remote commander, press the "GUI MODE" button to display "GUI MODE OFF" in the display window of the receiver.
    14. On the remote commander, press the "MENU" button, then press the up/down arrow () buttons to select "System Settings", and then press the enter () button.
    15. Use the up/down arrow () buttons to select "UPDATE(PC)", and then press the () button.
    16. Use the up/down arrow () buttons to select "PERMIT".
      IMPORTANT:
      • Do not power off the receiver or disconnect the network cable during the firmware update process. Doing so may cause may cause a malfunction.
      • It may take 30 minutes to complete the update.
    17. On the computer, double-click the Setup Manager icon.
    18. At the "Setup Manager - Select AV Receiver" screen, double-click the icon for your receiver.
    19. At the "Setup Manager" screen, move the scroll bar on the left to select "System".
    20. At the "System Settings" screen, to the right of "File Path", click "Browse" to locate the N21U_1027.zip file.
    21. Click "Start Update".
    22. At the "Start Update" screen, click "Yes" to start the update process. This update takes 15-30 minutes to complete.
      Note: The MULTI CHANNEL DECODING lamp on the front panel of the receiver flashes while the update is in progress. The flashing will disappear after the update is complete.
    23. After the update completes, click "Exit".
    24. Power off the receiver and disconnect from the computer.

    The firmware software update is complete.

    How to Check the Software Version

    1. On the remote commander, press the "GUI MODE" button to display "GUI MODE OFF" in the display window of the receiver.
    2. On the remote commander, press the "MENU" button, then press the up/down arrow () buttons to select "System Settings", and then press the enter () button.
    3. Use the up/down arrow () buttons to select "VERSION x.xxx". This will display the current version information for the receiver.
