    Before You Start

    Determine if Your Camera Needs the Update

    This update is only for HDR-CX900 cameras that currently have firmware version 2.00 or lower. If your camera firmware version is already version 3.00 or higher, this update is not necessary.


    Check the version of your camera firmware:


    1. Power on the camera.
    2. On the camera, select "MENU", "General Settings", and then "Version".
    3. If the version number is Ver. 3.00 or higher, the camera does not need this update.

    Important Notes

    1. Remove the memory card from the camera
    2. Ensure the camera battery is fully charged.

    Download & Install

    Download and Update the Firmware

    1. Download the Update_CAMHDRCX900V300.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_CAMHDRCX900V300.dmg.
      Note: Do not connect the camera to the computer yet.
    3. Double-click the "Firmware Updater" Firmware Updater Icon icon.
    4. At the Password prompt screen, enter the Name and Password for the administrative account, and then click "OK".

    5. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, please follow the instructions.
    6. Power on the camera.
    7. Make sure the USB Connect Setting is set to "Mass Storage".
      On the camera, select "MENU", "Settings", "Main Settings", "USB Connect Setting", and then ensure "Mass Storage" is selected.

    8. Ensure the memory card is removed from the camera.
    9. Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
      Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, try disconnecting and reconnection the USB cable or try another USB port on the computer. Then proceed to the next step.
    10. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".

      WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
    11. When the updater recognizes the camera connection, the next "Firmware Updater" screen is displayed on the computer, and the camera screen displays "Follow the instructions on the computer".

    12. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".

    13. When the following screen is displayed, check the version number at the lower left.

      If the current version is "2.00 or lower", click "Next".
      Note: If the current version is "3.00 or higher", your camera does not need this update. Stop the USB connection and click "Finish". Then power off the camera, briefly remove the battery pack, and then power on the camera again.
    14. To perform the firmware update, follow the steps to reset the camera.
    15. Reset the camera:
      The LCD screen on the camera displays the message, "Initialize this camera to update the firmware.". Press "OK" on the camera display panel.

      Note: The camera screen turns off when the button is pushed.
    16. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".

    17. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the next Firmware Updater screen appears.
    18. When the following screen is displayed, click "Run".
      Note: The update process takes about fifteen minutes to complete.

      WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
    19. When the following screen is displayed, click "Finish".

    20. You may now disconnect the USB cable.
    1. On the camera, select "MENU", "General Settings", and then "Version".
    2. If the version number is Ver. 3.00, the camera firmware was successfully updated.
