    Benefits and improvements

    This utility upgrades the AV Receiver firmware to version 1.060 and provides the following benefits:

    Improvements over version 1.050:

    • Support for remote control from the web browser
    • Improved stability of Music Connect

    Benefits provided by previous updates and included in versions 1.060:

    • Support for preset volume feature for Music Connect
    • Support for output zone select feature for Music Connect
    • Improved HDMI™ stability
    • Support for the HAP-Z1ES and HAP-S1 models for Music Connect
    • Support for the AMX Device Discovery technology
    • Improves capability of the USB power supply
    • Improves the behavior of the HDMI OUT B output (HDMI Zone2 output)
      Note: HDMI OUT B connected to a television will have a black picture and the receiver outputs no sound if the receiver meets all of the following conditions at the same time:
      1. You use both HDMI outputs (HDMI OUT A and HDMI OUT B) of the receiver.
      2. Either of the following conditions is met:
        • If "5.7. HDMI Out B Mode" is "Zone2" and the receiver selects same HDMI input for both outputs.
        • If "5.7. HDMI Out B Mode" is "Main" and the receivers HDMI output setting is set to "A+B".
      3. Power status of the television connected to "HDMI OUT A" of the receiver is "OFF".

    Before You Start

    Check the Current Firmware Version

    1. Power on the receiver.
    2. On the AV receiver remote control, press the "HOME" button, the home menu is displayed on the television screen.
    3. Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "7. System Setup", and then press the ENTER EXECUTE Button button.
    4. At the Settings menu list, select "7.7. Software Version", and then press the ENTER EXECUTE Button button.
    5. The firmware version currently installed on the receiver is displayed. If the version number is 1.060 or higher, it is not necessary to install this firmware upgrade.

    6. Note: You can also check the current firmware version from the setting menu on the front display of the receiver without using the television.

    Download & Install

    Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

    Important Notes
    • If you have not done so already, please check the current firmware version to determine if this firmware update is needed for your AV Receiver.
    • WARNING! Please follow the update instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the update process and may cause the AV Receiver to be unresponsive or to require repair.
    • WARNING! Do not power off the AV Receiver or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware update may cause the AV Receiver to be unresponsive or to require repair.
    • WARNING! Do not change the name of the file. This update will not install successfully if the name of the file is modified.
    • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.
    USB Memory Download Instructions
    1. Download the sony_strza3000_update_v1.060.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and extract the update file from the sony_strza3000_update_v1.060.zip file.
    • For Mac OS® X operating system:
    1. Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the "sony_strza3000_update_v1.060.zip" file.
    2. A new file will be created called "F_ZA3000.upg".
    • For Microsoft® Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows 8 operating system:
    1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the "sony_strza3000_update_v1.060.zip" file, and then click "Extract All".
      Note: For Windows 8, the default settings for Internet Explorer® will save the file in the Downloads folder. To locate the Downloads folder, click the "Desktop" tile from the Start screen and then locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer.
    2. At the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" window, click "Extract".
    3. A new file will be created called "F_ZA3000.upg".
    • For Windows XP operating system:
    1. Go to the location where the file was downloaded and right-click the "sony_strza3000_update_v1.060.zip" file, and then click "Extract All".
    2. At the "Extraction Wizard" dialog box, click "Next".
    3. Click "Next".
    4. Click "Finish".
    5. A new file will be created called "F_ZA3000.upg".
    • Connect a USB storage device to your computer.
    • Transfer the update file to the root directory of your USB storage device:
      Note: The root directory is the top directory in a file system.

    IMPORTANT: Do not change the name of the file. This update will not install successfully if the name of the file is modified.

    • For Mac OS® X operating system:
    • Drag and drop the "F_ZA3000.upg" file to the root file of the USB device.
    • For Windows operating system:
    1. Go to the directory where the file was created, and then right-click the "F_ZA3000.upg" file.
    2. From the menu, click "Send To...", and then click the drive where your USB drive is located.
    3. The update file will be copied onto your USB device.
    • Remove the USB device from your computer.
    • Please continue to the next section.

    Update via USB Memory Instructions

    • Updating the System Software

      CAUTION: During the update process, do not remove the USB device or power off the receiver.

      1. Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the AV Receiver is connected.
      2. Power on the receiver.
      3. Insert the USB storage device containing the update file into the "SETTING" (USB) port located on the front panel of the receiver.
      4. On the AV receiver remote control, press the "HOME" button, the home menu is displayed on the television screen.
      5. Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "7. System Setup", and then press the ENTER EXECUTE Button button.
      6. At the Settings menu list, select "7.8. USB Update", and then press the ENTER EXECUTE Button button.
      7. While the upgrade is installing, the message "UPDATING...XXX%" is displayed on the front display of the receiver.
      8. Once the firmware update is complete, the system automatically restarts.
      9. Remove the USB device from the receiver.

      Note: You can also perform the USB update from the setting menu on the front display of the receiver without using the television.
