Before You Start
Determine Whether or Not this Firmware Update is Needed for Your Digital Photo Frame
Checking the version of your firmware:
- Power on the digital photo frame.
- On the rear of the photo frame, press the MENU button.
- Tap the Settings
icon.
- At the Settings menu, drag your finger to scroll though the list and then tap to select System Information.
- Check the version number listed: If version 1.40 is listed, this firmware update is not necessary.If the version listed is 1.39 or lower, please proceed with the firmware update.
- Tap the Back
icon to return to the Settings menu.
- Tap the Back
icon again to return to the beginning menu.
Important Notes
- IMPORTANT: This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
- IMPORTANT: While performing the update, make sure the digital photo frame is connected to AC power using the supplied AC adaptor and placed in a stable and secure location. Loss of power during the update process may cause the digital photo frame to malfunction.
- All user settings and images saved in the internal memory are retained during the update process.
- Before performing the update, it is recommended that you save backup copies of your data that is saved in the digital photo frame internal memory.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

How To Get the Firmware Update:
There are two ways to update your digital photo frame firmware:
- Network Update:
- IMPORTANT: If you choose to perform a network update, be sure to carefully follow the on-screen instructions when the firmware update appears on the screen.
- The Network Update operation is performed when the digital photo frame is connected to the Internet using a wireless network.
- When the unit is connected to a wireless network, the latest firmware version is automatically displayed if an update is available.
- To manually check for an update, ensure the digital photo frame is connected to the Internet using the wireless network, then press the MENU button, tap the Settings
icon, scroll though the list and tap to select System Information, and then tap Update Firmware.
Note: The update file is checked automatically when the digital photo frame is powered on for the first time after completing setup of the wireless network connection. The update file is also checked automatically at 24-hour intervals when connected to the wireless network and the digital photo frame is powered on.
- Download Update:
- You may download the update file to your computer and transfer the update to your digital photo frame. Note: If you choose to download the update, a computer meeting the system requirements and a compatible memory card or USB flash drive is required. Please continue with the steps below to download and install the update.
- You may download the update file to your computer and transfer the update to your digital photo frame.
Download System Requirements
- This update requires a computer with one of the following operating systems installed:
- Microsoft® Windows® 10
- Microsoft® Windows® 8.1
- Microsoft® Windows® 8 Note: For Windows 8 and 8.1, please use desktop mode.
- Microsoft® Windows® 7
- Microsoft® Windows Vista® (with service pack 2)
- Apple®Mac OS X® 10.4 (or later)

Note: Operation is not guaranteed for all computers with a compatible OS installed.
- This update requires one of the following types of recording media:
- 128 MB to 32 GB Memory Stick® or Memory Stick Duo™ media
- 128 MB to 32 GB SD memory card
- 128 MB to 32 GB USB flash drive Note: Operation is not guaranteed for all Memory Stick media, SD memory cards, or USB flash drives.
- Please see the Compatible Memory Card/USB flash drive section in the Digital Photo Frame Handbook for more information about compatible recording media.
- Using a memory card that has been initialized (formatted) by your digital camera or dedicated Memory Stick® formatting software is recommended. When using a USB flash drive, refer to the formatting procedure provided by the manufacturer.
- WARNING!! All data on the recording media, including protected images, will be erased by initializing (formatting) and cannot be restored.
Download and Installation Instructions
- Download the SML70V09.zip file to your desktop (recommended) or to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Unzip the downloaded file: Note: Depending on your operating system, the file may be automatically unzipped when it is downloaded. If you are unable to unzip the file using the procedures described below, you may need to use an unzip (decompression) tool.

- For Microsoft Windows operating systems:
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the SML70V09.zip file, and then click Extract All. Note: For Windows 8/8.1 and 10, the default settings for Internet Explorer® will save the file in the Downloads folder. For Windows 10, use File Explorer to locate the Downloads folder, for Windows 8/8.1, click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and then locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer.
- At the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window, click Extract. Note:The SML70V09 folder will be created on your computer desktop or in the directory selected for the download.
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the SML70V09.zip file, and then click Extract All.
- Mac OS:
- Double-click the SML70V09.zip file. The SML70V09 folder will be created on your computer desktop or in the directory selected for the download. Note: The unzipped SML70V09 folder contains the update file SML70V09.DUP. Depending on your operating system environment, some file extensions (.DUO /.dup) may not be displayed and the file will appear as SML70V09.
- Double-click the SML70V09.zip file. The SML70V09 folder will be created on your computer desktop or in the directory selected for the download.
- For Microsoft Windows operating systems:
- Prepare the recording media:
- Prepare an initialized (formatted) memory card or use a USB flash drive. For details about how to initialize (format) a digital camera memory card, please see the Operating Instructions of your digital camera. Note: Using a memory card that has been initialized (formatted) by your digital camera or dedicated Memory Stick formatting software is recommended. When using a USB flash drive, refer to the formatting procedure provided by the manufacturer.
WARNING!! All data on the recording media, including protected images, will be erased by initializing (formatting) and cannot be restored.
- Prepare an initialized (formatted) memory card or use a USB flash drive. For details about how to initialize (format) a digital camera memory card, please see the Operating Instructions of your digital camera.
- Copy the update file to the memory card using one of the following methods:
- If your computer has a card slot that is compatible with your recording media, or if you have a card reader that is compatible with your recording media:
- Insert the initialized (formatted) memory card into the card slot of your computer or card reader.
- Open the SML70V09 folder on your computer and then drag and drop the update file to the root folder of the memory card. IMPORTANT: Do not create a folder on the memory card. Drag and drop the update file directly to the root folder of the memory card.
- Using your digital camera connection:
- Insert an initialized (formatted) memory card in your digital camera.
- Connect your digital camera to your computer.
- Open the SML70V09 folder on your computer and then drag and drop the update file to the root folder of the memory card. IMPORTANT: Do not create a folder on the memory card. Drag and drop the update file directly to the root folder of the memory card.
Note: See your digital camera's Operating Instructions for more details about how to connect your camera to a computer and how to copy to the memory card. - Using a USB flash drive:
- Insert the USB flash drive into your computer.
- Open the SML70V09 folder on your computer and then drag and drop the update file to the root folder of the USB flash drive. IMPORTANT: Do not create a folder on the USB flash drive. Drag and drop the update file directly to the root folder of the USB flash drive.
- If your computer has a card slot that is compatible with your recording media, or if you have a card reader that is compatible with your recording media:
- Update the firmware:
IMPORTANT: Make sure the digital photo frame and AC adaptor are placed in a stable and secure location and that the memory card/USB flash drive is securely inserted into the digital photo frame. Loss of power or if the memory card/USB flash drive comes out or is removed during the update process may cause the photo frame to malfunction.
- Ensure the AC adapter is connected to the photo frame and plugged into an AC power outlet. This will automatically power on the photo frame.
- Insert the memory card or USB flash drive with the update file into the appropriate slot on the digital photo frame.
- On the rear of the photo frame, press the MENU button.
- Tap the Settings
icon.
- At the Settings menu, drag your finger to scroll though the list and then tap to select System Information.
- At the System Information screen, tap to select Update Firmware.
- Tap the Download button to copy the update file to the internal memory of a digital photo frame. Note: The text displayed on the digital photo frame may differ depending on the current firmware version.
- After the update file copy is complete, tap the Restart to update button. Note: The first time you turn the power on after the update is complete, the digital photo frame will take longer to start than usual.
- Remove the memory card/USB flash drive.
Checking the version of your firmware:
- Power on the digital photo frame.
- On the rear of the photo frame, press the MENU button.
- Tap the Settings
icon.
- At the Settings menu, drag your finger to scroll though the list and then tap to select System Information.
- Check the version number listed: If version 1.40 is listed, this firmware update was successful. You may remove the update file from your memory card or USB flash drive.If the version listed is 1.39 or lower, the update process did not perform correctly. Please perform the firmware update again from the beginning.
- Tap the Back
icon to return to the Settings menu.
- Tap the Back
icon again to return to the beginning menu.
This completes the firmware update procedure.
