Benefits and improvements

This utility updates the system software to version 2.301 and provides the following changes and benefits:

Improvements over version 2.205:

  • Adds the HDR Contrast function to the Picture Menu (when viewing HDR content) to allow adjustment of the average screen brightness
  • Adds automatic selection of BT.2020 color space when receiving such content
  • Adds an HDR indicator in the Information Menu when HDR content is being received

Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 2.301:

  • Minor bug fixes
  • HDR image quality improvement
  • New Sony unified control protocol (common protocol/ADCP)
  • Picture quality improvements (Reality Creation, etc.)

Download & Install

Download and Transfer the Update Folder to Your USB Storage Device

  1. Download the file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
  2. Extract the update folder from the file.
  3. Connect a USB storage device to your computer.
    • Requirements for the USB device used for the update:
  4. Open the extracted folder and transfer the sony_dtv0FA30A07A0A7_00002900 update folder to the root directory of your USB storage device.
    Note: The root directory is the top directory in a file system.

    IMPORTANT: Do not change the name of the folder or copy to any other folder on the USB device. This update will not install successfully if the name of the folder is modified or if the folder is not copied to the root directory of the USB device.

    • For Microsoft® Windows® operating system:
      Right-click the sony_dtv0FA30A07A0A7_00002900 folder and, from the menu, click Send To..., and then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The update folder will be copied onto your USB storage device.
    • For Apple® Mac OS® X operating system:
      Drag and drop the sony_dtv0FA30A07A0A7_00002900 folder to the root folder of the USB storage device.
  5. Remove the USB device from your computer.

Update the System Software

CAUTION: During the update process, do not remove the USB device or turn off the projector.

  1. Power off the projector.
  2. Make sure no other USB device is connected to the projector before starting the update.
  3. Insert the USB storage device containing the update folder into USB port of the projector.
  4. Power on the projector. The update process starts automatically.
    Note: During the update the ON/STANDBY indicator blinks green. Then, it blinks amber. It takes about 5 minutes to update.
  5. After the update is complete, the ON/STANDBY indicator lights up red and the projector enters standby state.
  6. Power on the projector.
    Note: After the update, the initial power on takes about 15 minutes to light a lamp. During this period, the ON/STANDBY indicator blinks green. DO NOT unplug/power off the projector until the process is finished and the projector lights a lamp.
  7. The process after the above step varies by model. Please see your model information below:
    • VPL-VW365ES: After the ON/STANDBY indicator blinks green for 15 minutes, the projector lights a lamp.
    • VPL-VW665ES: After the ON/STANDBY indicator blinks green for 15 minutes, the WARNING indicator blinks red 3 times. While blinking, wait for 1 minute and then power on the projector to light a lamp.
