OPTION 1 - Update via internet Method (Recommended)
The Update via internet method is straightforward and the easiest way to update your system. To use this method, your Sound Bar must be connected to your internet source using an Ethernet cable. (512Kbps or faster). If you have a slower connection speed, use the USB Storage Device method instead.
Read the Update via internet Instructions
- Turn on the TV and switch to the TV input to the connected Sound Bar.
- Make sure the LAN (100) terminal on the system is connected to your internet source using an Ethernet cable.
- Turn on the Sound Bar.
- Press the HOME button on the remote control.
- At the HOME screen, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Setup > Software Update, and then press the ENTER key.
- Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Update via Internet, and then press the ENTER key.
- When the message A new software version has been found on the network. Do you want to update the software? is displayed on the TV, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select OK, and then press ENTER key.
Note: It takes approximately 5 minutes to start updating after the software has been downloaded.
- When the message Update to a new software version. Never turn off power while performing update. Current version M34.R.xxxx New version M34.R.2137 is displayed on the TV, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Start and then press the ENTER key to proceed with software update.
- When the message Update Caution is display on the TV, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select OK and then press ENTER button to proceed with software update.
- During the update, the message UPDT will flash on the front panel display.
- When the message DONE appears on the front panel display, the update is complet and the Sound Bar will restart automatically. Don't disconnect the power cord during the update process.
- Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.
- If the last four digits of the version number are 2137, the firmware update was successful.
- If the last four digits aren't 2137, the update failed. Perform the Update via internet process again or try the USB Storage Device update method instead.
Q: The following error message appears on the TV: Update failed. Connect the USB memory containing the update files or connect to the network to retry.
Please perform the following steps:
- Make sure all devices connected between the Sound Bar and the router are switched on, that all the cables between are correctly connected, and the correct type of cable (straight or crossover) is being used.
- Using the remote control, select OK on the display and then press the ENTER button.
- Try to perform the Update via internet again.
- If the update fails again, try the USB Storage Device update method instead.
Q: The following error message appears on the TV: Connection status cannot be confirmed cannot communicate with the server. Please try again later.
Make sure your internet connection and network settings are correct.
- For a wired connection: Check that the LAN (Ethernet) cable between the LAN (100) terminal on the system and your internet router or modem is securely connected.
- For a wireless connection: Check that the wireless router is powered on and connected to the internet.
- Check the Sound Bar network settings and confirm it has its own IP address.
Note: If you use a proxy server, enter the IP address of the proxy server you use, instead of the proxy host name, in the Proxy Server input field.
- Confirm both the Physical Connection and internet Access indicate OK in Network Settings > Network Connection Status.
- Try to perform the Update via internet again.
Q: The power was shut down during the update process.
Turn on the Sound Bar and try the update process again.
Q: After the update process has started, the message Download capacity: xxxxxxKB/xxxxxKB and xx% is displayed on the TV screen but the progress bar on the display has not changed.
Depending on the network connection speeds, the update process can take a long time to begin and up to 90 minutes to complete, resulting in this condition.
Q: The firmware update process isn't finished after running for more than 90 minutes.
This may occur due to a slow network speed (less than 512Kbps).
- If you are connecting to the network wirelessly, try using a wired (cable) connection.
- Cancel the process and try the Update via internet again.
- If the process still doesn't complete, cancel it and then use the USB Storage Device update method instead.
Q: The message This device isn't connected to network is displayed on TV screen.
Make sure the LAN cable is connected to the Sound Bar and try the update process again.
Q: The firmware update continues to fail after multiple tries.
Try using the USB Storage Device update method instead.
Q: The message Already Updated is display on the TV screen.
The firmware version currently installed on the Sound Bar is the latest version.

With this method, you use a PC to download the firmware upgrade to USB storage device, and then install it from the USB storage device onto your Sound Bar. You'll need a USB storage device with 150MB space available, and your Sound Bar has to be connected to a TV.
STEP 1. Download and transfer the Update Files to Your USB Storage Device
- Download the UPDATE_M34R2137.zip file to a directory on your PC, and make note of this directory for reference.
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify the file size is 212 MB (222,651,419 bytes).
- Right-click the UPDATE_M34R2137.zip file, and click Properties.
- On the Properties screen, verify the Size: listed is 212 MB (222,651,419 bytes).
Note: The Size on disk: may be different. That is normal.
- If the file size isn't 222,651,419 bytes, download the file again.
- Extract the update file from the UPDATE_M34R2137.zip file.
- For Apple® Mac OS® X operating systems: Double-click the UPDATE_M34R2137.zip file, and a folder called UPDATE will be created.
- For Microsoft® Windows operating systems: Right-click the UPDATE_M34R2137.zip file, and then click Extract All, and a folder called UPDATE will be created.
The UPDATE folder will contain four extracted files: MSB34-FW.BIN, MSB34-FW.ID, MSB34-FW_MB.BIN, and MSB34-FW_MB.ID.
- Connect a USB storage media device to your computer.
- Copy the UPDATE folder with the four extracted files onto the USB device:
- For Mac OS X operating systems: Drag and drop the UPDATE folder to the root directory of the USB device.
- For Windows operating systems: Right-click the UPDATE folder, click Send To..., and then click the drive where your USB drive is located.
Notes:
- The root directory is the drive itself. Just move a file directly to the drive and don't specify a folder.
- The update won't perform if the UPDATE folder isn't copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the folder is modified.
- Remove the USB device from your computer.
- Continue to the next section
STEP 2. Perform the Firmware Update
The update process takes 15 to 60 minutess to complete. During the update, your TV screen will display progress information or may be blank. This is normal.
WARNING! Don't power off the system, disconnect the system from the AC power outlet, press any buttons (except as instructed), and don't remove the USB storage device from the system until the update process is complete. Doing so can damage the system to the point of requiring repair.
- Turn on the TV and switch to the TV input to the connected Sound Bar.
- Turn on the Sound Bar.
- If there are any devices connected to the USB ports of the system, disconnect them.
- Press the HOME button on the remote control.
- Insert USB that contain the update files.
- At the HOME screen, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select Setup > Software Update, and then press the ENTER button.
- Use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select Update via USB Memory, and then press the ENTER button.
- When the message Update files found in the USB memory. Do you want to update the software? Current version M34.R.xxxx New version M34.R.2137. Don't turn off the power or remove the USB memory during the update is displayed on the TV, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select OK, and then press the ENTER button.
- When the message Update Caution is display on the TV, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select OK, and then press the ENTER button to proceed with software update.
- During the update, the message UPDT will flash on the front panel display. Don't disconnect the power cord during the update process.
- When the message DONE appears on the front panel display, the update is complet and the Sound Bar will restart automatically.
- When the update is complete, remove the USB device from the system.
- Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.
- If the last four digits of the version number are 2137, the firmware update was successful.
- If the last four digits of the version number aren't 2137, download and install the update again.
Q: The words UPDATE and ERROR appear alternately on the system display window.
Please perform the following steps:
- Disconnect the system's AC power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait several minutes and then reconnect the power.
- Turn on the Sound Bar.
- Try to perform the USB Storage Device update method again.
Q: The power was shut down during the update process.
Turn on the Sound Bar and try the update process again.
Q: There is no update file message appears.
Make sure the folder on the USB device is correctly named
UPDATE (with all capital letters) and contains all four files:
- MSB34-FW.BIN
- MSB34-FW.ID
- MSB34-FW_MB.BIN
- MSB34-FW_MB.ID
Try the update again. If it still doesn't work, delete the
UPDATE directory from your USB device and the
UPDATE_M34R2137.zip file from your PC, and then download, extract and transfer the files again.
Q: The UPDATE_M34R2137.zip update file can't be extracted.
Delete the downloaded UPDATE_M34R2137.zip file and then follow the steps in the Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device section again.
Q: The firmware update process is still not finished after running for more than 60 minutess.
