Using Clear Image Zoom
Clear Image Zoom is a feature in some cameras that allows you to zoom in on still images while maintaining close to the original image quality. The camera first uses optical zoom to its maximum magnification, then uses Clear Image Zoom technology to enlarge the image by up to 2x. This process can produce sharp, clear images without sacrificing detail, file size, or light.
Example of use
The photos were taken with an ILCE-7M4 camera using a SEL70300G lens zoomed in to 300mm. After that, Clear Image Zoom was applied to achieve a 2x zoom, making it equivalent to a 600mm telephoto. Check the article on Zoom features and differences for more information.

Zoom with a power zoom lens attached
When a power zoom lens is attached, you can use the zoom lever or zoom ring to magnify the image. If you exceed the optical zoom magnification, the camera will switch to the other zoom method.
Example using FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G (SELP1635G)
- A: Zoom ring
- B: Zoom lever
- C: Focusing ring
Attaching a power lens on some cameras will prevent you from zooming from the menu or using zoom features assigned to a custom key, in which case the message "Invalid with this lens." is displayed. If this occurs, zoom using the zoom lever or zoom ring.
