How to troubleshoot a keyboard not working properly.

    Follow these steps to troubleshoot why the desktop keyboard is not working properly.

    NOTES:

    • Download and install all available updates. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
    • The steps below are provided to isolate the issue. Some steps may not be required. After each troubleshooting step is performed, test to see if the issue is resolved.
    • If you are using a third-party keyboard, refer to the keyboard documentation or the manufacturer's website for information regarding how to properly connect and use the keyboard.
    • If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
    • If available, use the VAIO Care™ troubleshooters and/or hardware diagnostics  tool to help resolve the issue.
    • The VAIO Care utility may not be available on all computers. To see if your computer has VAIO Care utility, check the computer specifications and Users Guide that came with the computer. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
    1. Turn off the computer, disconnect all external mouse devices, keyboards, USB devices, and the port replicator or docking station, and then restart the computer.
    2. Verify that the NUM LOCK (NUM LK) feature of the keyboard is turned off .
    3. Clean the keyboard  to ensure there is no debris between the keys or liquid spilled on the keys.
    4. Remove and reinstall the keyboard driver .
    5. Remove all the additional keyboard settings in Accessibility Options .
    6. Reset the BIOS defaults .
    7. Perform a System Restore  to restore the computer to an earlier date.

    If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required.  Go to Product Repair.
