Notice of Limited Warranty Updates for Sony Electronics Inc. and Sony of Canada Ltd.

Dear Sony customer:

Sony Electronics Inc. (for purchases made in the United States) and Sony of Canada Ltd. (for purchases made in Canada) (collectively “Sony”) updated the terms of the Limited Warranties that accompany Sony consumer electronics products sold in the United States and Canada. Sony implemented two changes: 

First, Sony added the following clarifying sentence to Limited Warranties:

  • Sony is not responsible for any labor or parts costs you incur relating to repairs or services from providers/servicers other than from a Sony authorized service center.

Second, Sony limited certain warranty exclusions to instances where damage, malfunction and/or failure occur as a result of using parts/supplies/servicing not authorized or performed by Sony or its authorized servicer. For example:

  • Our previous Limited Warranties stated, in part: 

This Limited Warranty does not cover products purchased from sources other than Sony or a Sony authorized dealer (including non-authorized online auctions), or issues due to: * * * (viii) use of parts or supplies not sold or authorized by Sony; (ix) resulting from servicing not authorized or performed by Sony or a Sony authorized service center; * * * 

  • Our updated Limited Warranties state, in part (see additions in bold font):

This Limited Warranty does not cover products purchased from sources other than Sony or a Sony authorized dealer (including non-authorized online auctions), or issues due to: * * * (viii) damage, malfunction and/or failure to product resulting from use of parts or supplies not sold or authorized by Sony; (ix) damage, malfunction and/or failure to product resulting from servicing not authorized or performed by Sony or a Sony authorized service center;

Regardless of the printed Limited Warranty language in the user manual and other materials that were in the packaging with your U.S. or Canada Sony consumer electronics product, you are now covered by the updated Limited Warranty. Of course, the time period and all other terms and conditions set forth in the Limited Warranty remain effective.
