How to manually setup and connect a cellular telephone with Bluetooth® wireless technology to the handheld for Internet use.
IMPORTANT:
- If model-specific information is needed for any of these steps, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online through the Manuals/Specs/Warranty link on this page.
- Before proceeding, disable any proxy connection used for the Microsoft® Access® NetFront® software. The proxy connection can be reconfigured once this procedure is completed.
- Configure the cellular telephone Data comm connection per the instructions included with the telephone.
NOTE: It may be necessary to contact the telephone manufacturer directly for specific instructions on how to configure the cellular telephone Data comm connection.
- On the handheld, tap the Home [FIG. 1] icon.
- Turn the Jog Dial until Prefs is selected.
- In the CLIÉ Launcher window, tap the Prefs icon.
- In the Preferences window, in the upper-right corner, tap the down arrow, and then tap to select Connection.
- In the Preferences window, under Available Connections:, tap to select the appropriate wireless driver.
- In the upper-right corner, tap the down arrow, and then tap to select Bluetooth.
- Next to Bluetooth, tap the down arrow, then tap to select Enabled.
- Next to Device Name, tap the Device Name box.
- In the Edit Device Name window, under Enter a name for this device:, enter the desired name for the handheld.
- Tap the OK button.
- In the Preferences window, next to Allow Device to be Discovered, tap the down arrow, then tap to select Yes.
- Next to Allow Wake Up, tap the down arrow, then tap to select No.
- On the cellular telephone, follow the manufacturer's instructions to accept the handheld as a trusted device.
NOTE: The handheld device name can be found on the handheld, in the Bluetooth Preferences window.
- On the handheld, enter the passkey created on the cellular telephone.
NOTE: Specific passkey information may be found in the documentation included with the cellular telephone or from the cellular telephone provider.
- Tap the OK button.
- In the Preferences window, in the upper-right corner, next to Bluetooth, tap the down arrow, and then tap to select Connection.
- Under Available Connections, tap the New button.
- In the Edit Connection window, in the Name box, enter a connection name.
NOTE: An appropriate name for the connection would be cellular.
- Next to Connect to, tap the down arrow, and then tap to select Modem.
- Next to Via, tap the down arrow, and then tap to select Bluetooth.
- In the Discovery Results window, tap the OK button.
- In the Edit Connection window, tap the OK button.
- In the Preferences window, in the upper-right corner, tap the down arrow, and then tap to select Network.
- Tap the Menu [FIG. 1] icon.
- In the Service menu, tap New.
- Next to Service, enter service name from cellular telephone.
IMPORTANT:
- The service name is case sensitive and must match the cellular telephone Data comm. name.
- The Data comm. name may be displayed on the cellular telephone. If not, refer to the cellular telephone documentation or contact the cellular telephone service provider for the appropriate Data comm name.
- Next to User Name, enter the appropriate user name.
IMPORTANT: A user name and password combination may not be required by the telephone, but a value must be entered in order to complete this process.
NOTES:
- If a user name and password combination is not required, as a rule of thumb, for the User Name enter the same user name as the handheld, and as the Password enter the passkey created on the cellular telephone.
- If a user name and password combination is required, ensure the proper user name and password are available. It is possible for the handheld to appear to be configured properly without actually being connected if an improper user name and password are used.
- Next to Password, tap the -Prompt- button.
- In the Password window, under Enter a password:, enter the appropriate password.
- Tap the OK button.
- In the Preferences window, next to Connection, tap the down arrow, and then tap to select the connection created earlier.
NOTE: If the custom connection was named cellular, tap to select cellular.
- Next to Phone, tap the Tap to enter phone button.
- In the Phone Setup window, next to Phone #, enter the Content Delivery Network (CDN) number.
IMPORTANT:
- The CDN number is provided by the cellular telephone provider.
- The CDN number may contain non-numeric characters.
- Tap the OK button.
- In the Preferences window, tap the Connect button.
IMPORTANT:
- It may be necessary to accept any connection windows that appear on the handheld or cellular telephone.
- If prompted to enter a passkey for the cellular telephone, in the Bluetooth Security window, enter the passkey.
- It may be necessary to enter the user name and password on the handheld or cellular telephone during the connection process.
- On the cellular telephone, the message Connection Status Open will be displayed.
- Open the ACCESS NetFront application.
NOTE: It will now be possible to browse the Internet with the ACCESS NetFront application using the wireless connection.
