Closed captioning (CC) doesn't display on the screen

Note: Closed captioning is limited to the shows that provide it, so if you’re not getting captions after ensuring the closed caption feature is enabled, you might be watching a non-captioned show.

    Cable or satellite box

If you're using a cable or satellite set-top box connected to your TV with an HDMI® or component cable, you must enable closed captioning (CC) from the cable or satellite box menu, not on your TV. Refer to your set-top box manufacturer for instructions.

    Streaming services

If you're watching a streaming service, like Netflixreg, Hulu®, Youtube™, or another service, you may need to turn on captioning within the service itself. Refer to the service you're watching for instructions.

TV without a cable or satellite set-top box

If you're watching TV programs without a cable or satellite set-top box, you can activate closed captioning using the TV remote or from your TV menu.

    • Try pressing the CC button on the TV remote. The location of the CC (closed captioning) button on remote controls will vary. Check your product manual for model-specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

    • Turn on closed caption from the TV menu:

Note: The TV menu and steps to enable the closed caption options will vary. Refer to your TV manuals for model-specific information.

      1. Open the Settings screen according to your TV remote options:
        • Press the gear icon Quick settings button, then select gear icon Settings.
        • Press the HOME button, then select gear icon Settings.
      2. Select System Preferences or Device Preferences.
      3. Select Accessibility.
      4. Select Captions.
      5. Use the on-screen options to select and enable your closed caption preferences.
