How to troubleshoot cable or satellite set-top box channels not changing on the TV through a coaxial cable connection.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Ensure fresh batteries are installed in the remote control.
    2. If you are using the TV remote control, ensure it is programmed and set properly to control the set-top box.
    3. Ensure nothing is blocking the Infrared (IR) sensor on the set-top box.
    4. Try changing the set-top box channels with the remote control.
    5. If the picture still does not change on the TV screen, try changing the channel using the buttons on the set-top box itself.

NOTE: If the picture changes using the buttons on the set-top box, but not with the remote control, then the remote control may need to be replaced. If the picture does not change, even by using the buttons on the set-top box, then continue troubleshooting with the steps below.

    6. Turn off the TV and set-top box.
    7. Ensure the coaxial cable from the wall is connected to the IN jack on the set-top box.
    8. Ensure there is a coaxial cable connected to the OUT jack of the set-top box.
    9. Ensure the other end of the coaxial cable is connected to the VHF/UHF IN jack of the TV.

IMPORTANT: If a VCR is connected, ensure the cable is connected to the VHF/UHF IN jack on the VCR. Then, make sure a second coaxial cable is connected to the VHF/UHF OUT of the VCR, with the other end connected to the VHF/UHF IN of the TV.

    10. Set the RF OUT switch on the set-top box to Channel 3 ( CH3 ) or Channel 4 ( CH4 ).

IMPORTANT: If a VCR is connected, the RF OUT switch of the VCR should also be set to the same CH3 or CH4 as the set-top box.

    11. Turn on the TV and set-top box.

IMPORTANT: If a VCR is connected, it should either be turned off entirely or tuned to channel 3 or 4 as selected in step 10.

    12. Use the TV remote control to tune the TV to channel 3 or 4 as selected in step 10.
    13. Use the set-top box remote control to change the channels.

NOTE: If the TV screen turns to static snow when changing the channel, then the TV channel was changed instead of the set-top box channel. Tune the TV back to channel 3 or 4 and ensure you are using the remote control for the set-top box or make sure the TV remote control is programmed and set properly to control the set-top box.
