Great, out of box, but masterful after minor tweak

Bought this TV two weeks ago, and out of the box I was blown away but it's elegance and design. Start up was such a breeze with the Google TV sign up, wish more TVs had this. After firing it up, and setting up apps, testing it on different content (Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, HULU) to get a feel of the picture quality on 4K, HDR, Dolby vision, and SDR content. Without any tinkering, the TV looked awesome, though just didn't have that "wow" factor yet. After a few tweaks to the peak luminance, switching the HDR tone mapping to "Prefer Brightness, and some motion adjusted, it has more than the "wow" factor. What this TV does, when fully unleashed, is incredible. Coupled with my PS5, it's also a solid gaming beast. Destiny 2's Crucible at 120fps is pretty darn cool! Looking forward to the eventual VRR update, but not salty it wasn't ready at launch. I'm a patient person. Sound quality is also great! The speaker system really does wonders for watching content without switching on the Bose system. The only gripe, though it's miniscule, is the cable management could have been cleaner but now I'm just looking for a fault. I love this TV and the new technology is exciting to see. Easy to recommend and worth 3K, easily.

Great Picture; Questionable QA & Warranty

As with any Sony OLED, the picture quality and processing is superb, particularly the tone mapping. Also a huge fan of not messing with the colours too much (like Samsung). However, at this price point, WOLED panels with noticeable vertical banding ("dirty screen effect"), and (sporadically) dead pixels are not acceptable. Neither is a 1 (!) year warranty that doesn't even cover some of these issues. Something this expensive should be near faultless, and be supported for longer. My rating is based on observing these defects on my panel. I find the banding distracting in everyday viewing.

That a superb panel with deep blacks definitely. Love the Google interface such a refreshing take on slow operating TV systems. Definitely appreciate the remote control that buttons lit up in the dark. Another plus is the sound which is incredible and does not really need a soundbar.

The recommendations and suggested content you see—some of which may appear as ads—are selected by Google's entertainment team or sponsored by media partners.

1- Enable "Apps Only" mode: This removes recommendations and sponsored content from the home screen, showing only the apps you've installed. Here's how you do it: Go to settings > Accounts and sign in > Select your Google Account > scroll down to Apps only mode > Enable
2- Use Basic TV interface: This simplifies your options to just basic ones, and removes many smart features, including the suggested content.
3- Use an external streaming device (like Roku, Apple TV, or others): If you prefer a different interface altogether, this will be able to do it for you.

It was nice while it lasted, which was about 18 months. Then the mother board died and Sony doesn't warranty it for longer than 12 months. I thought they were a quality brand that would feel badly about making stuff that died so soon, but I was wrong.

An impressive line of TV's

I bought the 55" A90j Master Series back in 2022 when it was pretty much new and have been using it without issue ever since. Easy automated software updates for the remote and TV are convenient to keep me updated. I bought the TV to take advantage of some features for the PS5. These two devices connect seamlessly together with the highest quality graphical settings available. My only complaints with the TV are: (1) it doesn't close apps, it leaves them open for fast switching. But let's say you have a lot open, like Netflix, Hulu, Max, Prime, etc., it can slow things down. (2) The TV will "crash" randomly sometimes. This may be connected to problem #1 I mentioned, and I also think it's an ANDROID TV issue and not a hardware issue with Sony. But I've literally had to unplug the TV from the wall before just to reset it. Usually it turns right back on and boots up with no issues. But it can be annoying sometimes. I'd say this happened maybe like 15-ish times in the 3 years I've had the TV. (3) The remote battery life seems to be horrible. The remote does this thing where if you touch it a backlight turns on so you can see it in the dark. It's a nice feature, but it seems to DRAIN the tiny AAA batteries. When your remote battery is low it'll pop up on the TV and tell you, which is also nice. But expect to see that popup every few months... Forever. (4) You ever hear anyone say the blacks are too black? Lol. Well, with this OLED the blacks are too black. The issue is the default setting on the TV is to basically negate color all together on any part of the image that's black. So yes, this does make for "deeper" blacks but sometimes it's VERY hard to see what's going on. It took me a bit to figure out how to adjust these picture settings, especially while gaming. But you can adjust not just the contrast to almost an infinite range, but also the way the hardware adjusts the black level. If you don't like it so dark because you can't see what's happening in movies and games then you can turn a slider down from the settings, causing the TV to add artificial color to black areas, essentially making them more of a dark grey, allowing you to see them better. Overall, great TV. Would definitely buy the next in line if I could afford it lol.

TV had issues and failed in a year's time

Bought this TV approximately a year ago. The TV worked fine initially. Good picture quality but had audio issues. The speakers and were faulty and back panel was a abnormally shaky. It used to distort even at 40-50% volume level. Motion and motion settings could have been slightly better for a flagship TV. Took almost 6 months to fix the speaker problem. Recently, it would just not switch on with only the red light flashing and required replacement. The TV was replaced and the replacement TV was older unit and turned out to be faulty as well. Issue still not resolved and still awaiting resolution. Support is not good. The TV as a product is good for picture except some motion handling. But once issues are found, there is no support to resolve them.

Great TV, great sound. Some of the 4k output is excellent and it's great using the PS5 but.... (UK based users) it does not allow ITV, BBC or CH4 apps to play/show live tv. So When England footy matches are on ... Seems like a simple oversight (no fix apparently) that has a real UE impact.

I was so excited to get this TV. I read all the reviews and it was the best OLED of 2022. I had this TV for 2 years, and it suddenly stopped working. A $3000 TV stops working after 2 years. That is terrible. Sony help-desk told me there is nothing they can do. Best Buy sent out a tech who said the 4 blinking red lights mean the screen is bad and would need to b replaced! THEY HAVE NO REPLACEMENT. AFTER 2 YEARS??? A $3000 TV ONLY LAST 2 YEARS??? Now I need to replace the TV, do I go with Sony for the next one? Probably NOT!

Very current tv even in 2024. Has all the bells and whistles. Brightness is amazing, especially too much for UK weather which is gloomy most of the time. Picture quality - I don’t think any OEM is close to SONY, great picture quality. Sound - sounds as good as my stereo HomePod original. If you know how HomePod sounds, you don’t need to listen this TV in person before purchasing. Google tv is fluid.

I've been experiencing significant responsiveness issues with my Sony Bravia 4K VH2 Android TV OS version 2 and connected DirecTV box. Both devices exhibit a delay in responding to remote control inputs. Key presses on the remote are not registered immediately; instead, there's a long wait during which the inputs seem to buffer, eventually executing all at once after a minute or two. This issue is intermittent but has been worsening over time. Rebooting the TV and the DirecTV box has not resolved the problem. This frustrating issue affects the usability of both my TV and the connected service, making simple navigation and selection tasks very cumbersome.

I have owned my TV for around 18 months and i have to say it's the best one i've ever had. The picture quality is stunning, on HD broadcast and even on Std broadcast but more so when watching 4K and Blu Ray movies. The sound from the TV is excellent with clarity and depth. A very good range of picture and sound settings enabling the viewer to achieve the very best picture and sound. The picture is sharp and the colours are true. Highly recommended.

The TV, image quality, control over picture, the ability to change things per input, sound, all seem to be amazing. The worst thing about this TV is the WIFI and GOOGLE. I cannot get the WIFI to work, it just won't. I have reset my TV to get it to work for a few minutes. I've troubleshooted based on many online guides that have had the same issues and the TV won't connect to the internet for more that a few minutes. The fun thing about that, is the SONY PICTURES (BRAVIA) CORE APP, can't work, because the it is impossible to connect the TV to the internet. The next is GOOGLE, I hate smart TVs, but that is the future that we are in. I think I should have a start up screen that asks me inputs and that's it, but for whatever reason, Sony wants to partner with a data-driven selling company GOOGLE. If Sony would care about their consumers more, they would just let go of Google and put better wifi connections in the tv. So, my tv will remain with the WIFI off, and that's the best thing I can do. Image though, so nice.

Awesome TV in its own right absolutely brilliant, picture and sound it's fantastic! but if you want to connect a soundbar (that is compatible with this TV (HT-A7000) and want to use the TV as a center speaker, (which is one of the benefits and is doable) you may have issues with it working intermittently. It's annoying as both this and the soundbar are around £5000 and for that amount of money, you shouldn't have to be dealing with technical issues. Bar that, an absolutely outstanding TV. One of the best I've seen.

This Sony Brava XR-55A90J cost me more than I would usually pay for a TV, but the quality of the build, picture and sound make it a really good value buy. The blacks are deep and the colours vibrant, while the through the screen sound is very impresive for built-in TV speakers, with plenty of stereo seperation and a suprisingly deep and room filling bass. The operating system system quickly becomes second nature and all the usual streaming services are easily accesible. The set comes with a two position stand for use with or without a soundbar and the Sony soundbars and Bluray players connect seamlessly allowing most operations using a single remote control. A fine TV for the discerning viewer.

The TV is more than looking online could ever show. You need to go to your tv store and find an OLED TV And compare led to oled. Just the sheer contrast in blacks and vibrant colors compared is devastating. The surprise is the sound from this TV is amazing. I unplugged my sound bar. And you can use the TV as acenter speaker it has speaker terminals on the back. The sound somehow comes through the screen. If you can make your budget work this is an excellent option. The only downside is the stand has the legs all the way to the edges. They are adjustable but I had to buy a swiveling center stand to fit on my stand.

In the past we always bought a "sale" TV. I read OLEDs had exceptional pictures and did some research thinking that someday, maybe. Our TV unexpectedly died. I thought lets go to WM and get the best TV they have. The wife says what about the OLED... TV is our major entertainment. So we got this Sony and WOW it is awesome. I purchased the Sony A90J OLED 2 weeks ago and have been absolutely blown away by the picture of the OLED panel. Clear and brighter than anything I’ve seen and the colors are vibrant and the most lifelike I’ve ever experienced. It integrates perfectly with my Sony home theater system to make the most enjoyable viewing experience whether I’m watching movies in 4k HDR IMAX or broadcast tv. Easily damaged by screen burn

Within 4 months from new, screen burn has become evident along the bottom of the screen from rolling news channel banners, even with Pixel Shift mitigation enabled. Astounded this could happen so quickly and isn't covered by warranty. Would not buy this type of TV again

Brilliant picture and good sound. Picture is clear as it gets even for UK broadcast tv. Only gripe is the way it forgets to open as live TV on switch on and reverts to one of the other inputs, even if live TV was the last thing it was used for. Bit annoying but the great picture is probably worth the hassle of pressing a few buttons to get to live TV every time it is switched on.

However, it requires an aerial to be connected to your TV to get FreeView channels, you may get in touch with an antenna specialist for more information about connecting an aerial. Also, it requires a broadband internet connection to get the on-demand applications (Catch-up TV) such as BBC IPlayer, ITV, etc.

The Tv maybe a 2021/22 model (while i'm writing this, Oct 23), but wow! Its got a sharper picture than the latest LG C3 models and now at discounted rates. Im super impressed by the overall quality and watching films is like being in the Cinema, ive an 83' model. I'm very pleased with it.

Clarity, brightness, sharpness and colour are excellent, it has lived up to all my expectations and exceeded the performance of the 65" Bravia it replaced. Also, with my seating being 5 metres from the screen it seriously improved my viewing experience.

Last month, I watched Oppenheimer in an IMAX theater, the first movie I have been to since I bought my TV. What a disappointment! My Sony TV is so much better. It was expensive, but worth every penny.

You really feel that this is a product of high quality. The pictures are amazing and there are some really amazing features this TV has like the AirPlay for example. It looks fantastic too. I really like that it sits flush on the TV unit. Love it!
