My first OLED TV

I really wanted to love this television and luckily I do. This is an upgrade from a 49 inch that is 5 years old so I am losing an inch. My previous television had very poor sound and I therefore used a 2.1 soundbar which provided great sound and especially bass. I was intrigued therefore whether I would be able to use the television sound now instead of the soundbar. The sound from this television is very impressive, however it doesn't provide the same levels of bass as the soundbar. However after adjusting the bass frequencies in the QE in the settings I am happy with the sound and have stopped using the sound bar. My opinion on this is as follows. If you haven't been using a soundbar then you won't need one now. If you have been using a soundbar because the sound from your television is poor and you are not worried about having cinematic sound, then the sound from the television will likely suffice. If however you added a soundbar to give you cinematic sound then you are still going to require a soundbar because as good as the sound is, it won't be as good as you are used to. I didn't think that OLED was going to make much of difference to my full array television, but I was very wrong. The picture quality is stunning and the colours incredible out the box without changing any settings. The interface is nice and has much less lag than my previous android television. Also the remote feels good quality. Overall I am very happy with the television as it has simplified my setup without the need for a soundbar. Because of this the sound and picture are now always in sync which was a problem that I had with a separate soundbar.

I've owned this horrible TV for over 2 years. I'm a retired TV Broadcast Satellite Uplink Engineer. I should be able to operate the TV and it's apps and menus with no problem. NO! This software is impossible to understand and operate. You can't tell if you're on Google TV, Sling TV, Roku TV or the OTA TV channels! I just spent 2 hours searching for the TV set power button somewhere on the actual TV. It's not marked! It's not visible! It's right there in front of you, black on black with NO MARKING WHATSOEVER!!!! There is no way I should have to go online, do a search, get the info then return to the TV set just to push the power button!!! I'm so frustrated with the TV I want to toss it off a cliff! Return it to the retailer. Whatever. It's a giant FAIL!!!

I bought this towards the end of January, came with a wall mount and has great features and even pre downloaded apps you can use. However the remote given doesn’t have voice command meaning the sound system is not optimal.

Don't buy it, avoid at all cost

Had this for 3 years after paying £1200 for it. Just noticed some ghost lines across the screen. Contacted Sony as it had a 5 year warranty. They weren't interested, said it was image retention which can happen with oled TV's. So why sell them then? We just watch everyday normal TV, nothing with any fixed lines or banners, but apparently it's insane retention, despite the fact there was no image to retain. Absolutely disgusted with Sony's response. They sell products that are not fit for purpose. I had a Panasonic plasma TV prior to this one, had it for seven years with absolutely no image retention, despite them being susceptible to it, and watching the same kind of TV. I know what brand of TV I'll be buying next time. Sony oled is just rubbish. Sony is rubbish. Do yourself a favour and pick another brand.

I bought this TV for £1000 in June 2023. September 2024 and it breaks. More than 12 months old so I am told not under warranty. Sony service centre told me the main panel is faulty and the repair cost is £350. Absolute disgrace to break in just over 12 months.

This TV was delivered yesterday and after unpacking the installation procedure was commenced. The only problem was that my iPhone was too old (Max iOS 15) to be used to install the google component, so had to use laborious screen and remote method. After that plain sailing, was rewarded with lovely picture and sound.

Had this tv for some time, but I have never been overly impressed with the picture quality, which seems flat and not very colour intense, which is what I expected. Despite spending a lot of time tweaking the assorted settings I cannot get as good a picture quality as I get when connected and switched through my Manhattan digital recorder, and also my Panasonic BluRay player. Then the picture quality then is more like I would expect; good sharp colours and tones. Sony make a big thing about the whole screen being a speaker for sharper dialogue: this did nothing for me, I still had to buy a separate dialogue speaker to fit under the tv as I am hard of hearing. When switching tv channels it is not instantaneous, there is a very noticeable delay before the next channel appears. Again not as quick as the Manhattan recorder. Also try as I might I cannot get my Sony wireless headphones to pair with the tv. This tv was promoted as cutting edge, but I have seen better tv’s at a far cheaper price. My old tv was mounted on a swivel base for ease of viewing; this one has not got that facility, a retro step I feel. The only plus is the legendary Sony build quality, my old Sony tv lasted many years without a problem. (And it had a swivel base).

Had this TV for about a year and have mixed views about it. Build, picture etc are perfect. Youview, which is the app which gives you programming info, however, is extremely unreliable. I have switched the TV on, and it has been 10 minutes before I've managed to get Youview to work. I did a factory reset, thinking that would solve the problem, but it didn't ; still have problems getting Youview to work. When the TV is on, there is no indicator visible from the front of the TV, which tells you it is on. Remote control works very well ; voice control is excellent when searching for a program or film.

This TV is great, with a fantastic picture. Unfortunately, the December 2003 Android software update has made it virtually unusable because the YouView TV app now hangs when I try to watch. I have to go to the Hime screen, go to the ‘app’ section, select the YouView TV app, force it to stop, and then reopen it. This is INFURIATING as my £1,400 TV is now useless.

We are very pleased with our new Sony now that we have the settings correct. It came set on power save mode which made the picture a bit dull but switching this off gave us the beautiful picture we were expecting. Though there are no visible speakers the sound is excellent and we do not need the extra expense of the dreaded Sound Bar.

You won't find a better picture quality, and it's also the best looking TV on the market, the stand which allows the TV to be flush with the table top is perfect. However I have a major criticism of the Android TV user interface, I didn't expect it to be so laggy on such a high end TV. Subsequent updates only make it worse. It's the second Sony Android TV I've owned and the first one had the same issue. I suspect it's Sony trying to cut costs by installing a CPU that is not up to the job, since Nvidia and Google have produced Android TV dongles without lag. Currently I'm sometimes having to wait 3 seconds before anything happens when I press a button on the remote control shortly after switching it on, it's completely unacceptable. I've factory reset the TV and have bluetooth connected both the original and a replacement remote to no avail. The problem is that my first Android TV eventually became unusable due to subsequent OS and app updates, so I had to buy a Google TV dongle for it. However it had a completely different colour profile to the original set, so I had to go through the laborious process of adjusting picture settings to match it. I got 95% of the way there, which was good enough, but this really shouldn't have been necessary, and I'm expecting I will have to implement a similar solution in the not so distant future when OS and app updates slow it down further. If it wasn't the the most expensive TV amongst it's direct competitors I would understand, but that's not the case. I did also have a Panasonic OLED TV of almost identical specs to this one, which had a brilliant and not laggy user interface, was cheaper, and similarly brilliant picture quality, but only let down by an HDR issue where subtitles appeared far too bright, and it's slightly boring appearance. I'd still buy the Sony again because I'm a snob for the way a TV looks when it's switched off, and rely on subtitles, but if those things don't matter to you and you'd find a laggy user interface frustrating, then I'd opt for a Panasonic.

Never expected this from a Sony TV

I had this TV for over 2 years now and I wished I had returned it soon after. There are numerous faults to list, but amongst these are 1. TV randomly turns itself off. 2. Totally unresponsive to any remote commands 3. Stuck in 3 children's TV channels for a whole day regardless of turning TV on/ off etc 4. Needs to power on/off from the mains plug at least once a month. 5. Extremely slow to move from one channel to another. 6 Some times TV displays no picture but sound only and vice versa.

We bought this TV less than 2 years ago and it had to have another “mother board” fitted in order for the repair to be completed. It took nearly 3 weeks for this to be replaced!

This is a great TV in almost all respects but is flawed by regular random resets when the TV will suddenly shut down and go through a lengthy reset process (hopefully not during any programme highlights). I think is must happen about once a month on average.

Despite these 2 irritations I would still not change this TV. Like other OLEDs this set doesn't perform well in producing grades of black in well lit room . Plus due to how the speakers work , when in a rare occasion 2 people are talking and one is off screen you struggle to hear that character .

Replaced my old Sony Bravia, the latest OLED technology is a vast improvement in the quality of picture and sound. Good features, including extendable legts if your wish to utilise a sound bar. Smart control a useful asset for opening apps etc.

I have a bright room when the Sun shines into the room, the TV appears very dark. Wish I’d bought another TV. That sound is fine. Google software was a pain to sign into on the TV. Picture okay sound OK.

Purchased my T. V. last November thought the picture quality and sound were pretty good considering there was no sound bar fitted. My rating falls down because I have problems useing the Netflix app. It works fine for a few days then the app freezes when I try to open it up. The only way to clear the problem is reboot the TV using the green button or clearing the cache from the app memory. I have also seen a lot of chatter on the Internet from others complaining about the same problem, so it is a problem that needs resolving. My third party devices connected to the same TV, - virgin tivo box, amazon firestick each loaded with their own Netflix apps all work perfect, so it is a Sony problem.

I have no problems with it. Very good color, excellent contrast and nice sound. The design of it is very sleek and minimalistic (beautiful). I'd only say that it is hard to understand what the best settings are, such as with peak luminance vs brightness, or gamma at -2 or 0. I end up reverting to the defaults in many cases, preferring Custom or Game Mode, and just turning brightness down about halfway (in a dark room).

This is my second OLED tv. My first being a top LG model, which is superb. The Sony is comparable in every way and actually surpasses it with the operating system and features. The picture quality is also excellent out of the box, and even better with a touch of tweaking. The overall build quality is excellent! Along with picture, very good sound quality for a stand alone tv too. Couldn’t be happier with how the tv functions with all the IPTV apps, plus some of my own. Highly recommended! This model was purchased November 2022. Apparently this is an outgoing model being replaced by its next model costing $500 more. My needs are basic—45-48” screen size; decent sound without soundbar; and possess all the new smart tv tech my old tv lacked. This tv does not miss on any of these points. The one thing I don’t understand is the tv screen bottom has very little clearance from the base and cabinet top which poses a slight problem using remote to send command to the tv’s signal receptor which is also located at the very bottom of the screen.

I purchased this TV on sale, so that influences my review. 1080 broadcast and streaming looks great! 4K programming looks outstanding! The only downside is with <1080 signals as the upscaling can be somewhat disappointing. It varies, sometimes it’s OK, sometimes not so good. This, I was told by the sales guy, is because this model is the low end of Sony’s OLED line and doesn’t have their best upscaling capability. The 2023 model has improved upscaling, but also costs $500 bucks more. I’m satisfied with my purchase.

As a broadcast professional, I own many high-end Sony products. Unfortunately, I have learned that the failure rate of these Bravia TV it’s not up to Sony standards. Superb fit and finish, especially for a mid range television. The unit has the esthetics of a top of the line product with impressive image quality (depending on what media is used) and the number of inputs makes it a versatile tool. The user interface is simple to use (for a change) making the initial setup easy and fast, so you can get to watching your favorite media in a snap. I haven’t utilized some of its more advanced technological features as of yet, but I don’t anticipate any issues when I do. Even though the unit’s cost is set at the mid range price point, the overall quality of the product left me feeling as if I’d gotten the better part of the deal, thereby negating any “buyers remorse” over the expenditure of such a large (to me) amount of funds. AND ITS REFRESHING, for once, to spend what meager funds I have and receive a product that is actually worth it.

This Sony is so amazing in clarity over my old Sony Bravia from 2005. When you're viewing a "talking heads" kind of show, it's like you've suddenly got company in the room, the sensation is so real. The sound has improved, too, with the dialog more distinct, probably because the screen itself acts as a kind of middle speaker, complimenting the surround souns.
