Why can't I use an app? (Android 9 or Android 10)

    Valid for

    • Android™ 9 Pie
    • Xperia® devices running Android 10

    Solution

When you install an app from the Google Play™ store on a device, you control what capabilities or information the app can access. The app may not prompt for permission during installation and only alerts you when the app needs access.

For example, an app might want permission to see your device contacts. If you don't allow the app to use your contacts, the app might not work. To allow the app to work, try to turn on and allow permissions in-app settings.

    Grant or deny permission

    Android 10

    1. Find and tap SettingsApps & notificationsSee all [number of apps] apps.
    2. Find and tap the relevant app.
    3. Tap Permission.
    4. Tap on the options and click Allow / Deny to turn it on or off.

    Android 9

    1. Find and tap SettingsApps & notificationsSee all [number of apps] apps.
    2. Find and tap the relevant app.
    3. Tap Permission.
    4. Tap the slider beside each permission to turn it on or off.
