    How to complete the Default System Drive Recovery

    WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. All software applications, configurations, and data added to drive (C:) will be erased. Data and information on drive (D:) will not be affected.

    1. In the VAIO System Recovery Utility window, under Main Menu, Product Recovery , click to select Default System Drive Recovery (Recommended) .
    2. Click the Next button.
    3. Under Confirm Execution , click the Next button.
    4. In the VAIO System Recovery Utility window, click the Yes button.
    5. The System Recovery Utility will begin restoring the hard drive.
    6. When the VAIO System Recovery Utility, Insert the CD Vol.2 and press the [OK] button dialog box is displayed, remove System Recovery CD #1.
    7. Insert System Recovery CD #2 into the CD/DVD drive.
    8. Click the OK button.
    9. When the VAIO System Recovery Utility, Insert the CD Vol.3 and press the [OK] button dialog box is displayed, remove System Recovery CD #2.
    10. Insert System Recovery CD #3 into the CD/DVD drive.
    11. Click the OK button.
    12. In the VAIO System Recovery Utility, The system recovery is complete... dialog box, click the OK button.
    13. Under Recovery, Implementing Recovery window, click the Next button.
    14. Remove the System Recovery CD from the CD/DVD drive.
    15. In the VAIO System Recovery Utility window, click the Finish button. The computer will restart.
    16. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup wizard.
    17. IMPORTANT: If the Windows XP Setup Wizard stops responding, restart the computer to continue the setup wizard.

    18. At the Windows XP Welcome screen, click the desired user name or icon to log in.
    19. The operating system may detect and install some of the hardware installed on the system. If prompted for drivers, insert the Driver Recovery CD into the CD/DVD drive. In the Restart the Computer message box, click the Yes button.
    20. If the VAIO Help and Support window is displayed regarding important updates or supplemental information, click the Remind Me Later button.

      NOTE: The supplemental information will include answers to common questions regarding the VAIO® computer. If Remind Me Later is not clicked, the information will not be made available when the recovery process is complete.

    21. In the Sony Application Recovery Program window, insert Application Recovery CD #1 into the CD/DVD drive.
    22. Click the OK button. The recovery program will start and install several modules and applications.
    23. If prompted to insert the CD for the bundled word processing application, click the Cancel button.
    24. IMPORTANT: If the word processing installation is not canceled, there will not be a prompt to enter a unique Product ID for the application. Without the unique Product ID, activation or registration of the application may not be allowed.

    25. In the Sony Application Recovery Program window, remove the Application Recovery CD.
    26. Click the OK button.
    27. Download and install all available driver and software updates for this model from the Sony PC Support Web site at http://www.sony.com/pcsupport
