What to do if the image (video) does not appear to be 3D
The following are possible causes. Check the settings of the device and computer based on the situation.
-
Faces are not detected
This device detects the user's face with an Eye-sensing sensor on the camera, recognizes the user's line of sight, and displays an optimized image. Therefore, if face detection is not enough, the image may be distorted. Also, when viewing, it may be difficult to detect faces due to masks or hats.
Check the face detection status
- Start the setting tool (SR Display Settings) in the Spatial Reality Display Settings app on the computer. Refer to the following to start the setting tool.
Spatial Reality Display Developer Site (SR Display Settings) - In the settings tool, check the Captured Image to ensure proper face recognition (red outline is stable on face image from camera).
Notes:- The 3D display may be difficult to see even when using a face shield.
- When using this device, remove any mask, sunglasses, or hat.
- If face detection is not performed properly, images may not appear beautifully as expected in 3D.
- Start the setting tool (SR Display Settings) in the Spatial Reality Display Settings app on the computer. Refer to the following to start the setting tool.
-
The Spatial Reality Display settings are not correct or may not be suitable for this device
- Check the following
- Click Start → Settings → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices → Related settings → Display settings.
- Under Display settings in Select and rearrange displays:
- Make sure that the computer screen is located on the right and set as the Main Screen.
- Set the Spatial Reality Display on the left side.
- (Right) PC / main display
- (Left) Spatial Reality Display
- In Scale and layout under Change the size of text, apps, and other items: set the scaling ratio of the Spacial Reality Display to 100%.
In Resolution: Confirm input signal of Spacial Reality Display is 4K (3840x2160).
- Improper viewing posture or position
In principle, this device can display 3D effects only in the horizontal direction. Use this device in a proper viewing environment.
- Overhead view
- Side view
For details on the recommended viewing environment for this device, refer to On the Viewing Environment in the Operating Instructions.
-
If you replace this device and connect it to the same computer, in rare cases, the device settings of the previous device may remain on Windows. In such cases, delete C:\User\[user name]\AppData\Local\Sony\Config\UserSettings.ini in the UserSettings.ini on the computer, and then run the executable file (generated by the SDK) of the 3D content again.
Notes:- To show extensions and hidden files such as *.ini files, use the Windows 10 folder options. Folder options can be launched from Settings → Update & Security → For Developers → File Explorer section. If you need more information, refer to the operating instructions of your computer.
- Deleting hidden files carelessly may cause problems in the operation of Windows, so please be careful. (Reverting the display settings of the folder options after deleting UserSettings.ini is recommended.)

Sometimes the image (video) does not appear to be 3D. / Image (video) does not follow my face (face detection is not working correctly)
Face detection may not be working properly. Check the following.
-
Make sure the surroundings are not too dark.
To view in 3D with this device, the viewing environment must be bright to some extent. If the surroundings are dark, face detection may work by shining an auxiliary light such as a fluorescent lamp on your face to ensure brightness.
-
Face detection will not work properly under the following conditions.
- Backlight
- Bangs covering the face
- Wearing sunglasses, etc.
- wearing a mask
- wearing a face shield
- White or black background*
* Detection may improve by opening the aforementioned setting tool (SR Display Settings) on your computer, 1: turning off the Auto Exposure setting (remove the checkmark), and 2: manually adjusting the Camera Gain.
Note: If face detection is not performed properly, images may not appear beautifully as expected in 3D. When using this device, remove any masks or use a mouth shield.
